Firefox often hangs when I try to download files from the internet. This is independent of the directory to which I am saving (I have "ask me" enabled"). I have cleared the download history, but the problem persists. Typically, if I terminate Firefox during the hand and restart it (normally, not in safe mode), subsequent downloads are successful. The behavior is consistent over different websites and file types. I am using Firefox 71.0 under Windows 8.1 Pro x64. I don't have problems with "Save As" in any other application. There are reports of similar problems in Bugzilla and MozillaZine going back many years. I attempted to automatically add troubleshooting information, but got a message about missing a plugin instead, and lost all the text I had typed in here, so I have now added it manually.
