Display issue since Firefox crash/update

I had Firefox running for days, maybe even weeks without restarting on my MacBook Pro. Then Firefox crashed and restarted in an auto-installed update a couple of weeks ago. Firefox was unusable for me from then on. It looks like the display is shifted down half a screen, so the bottom of the window is drawn at the top and the top of the window is drawn at the bottom. Mouse-interaction still functions as if the display did not shift, so it is challenging to click around.

I've cleared out everything. Every application settings folder and profile folder I could find, removed Firefox altogether and installed an older version of Firefox. This works right up until an update is installed again. I also made sure I updated OSX to the latest version. The last couple of weeks I've been using Firefox Firefox 61.0b8 without any problems (I disabled auto-updates). But when I installed the latest Firefox version again today, same problem popped up. I'm all out of ideas right now.

We're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing. In order to assist you better, please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A list of Submitted/Unsubmitted Crash Reports will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Submitted Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.

Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.

(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

Thank you for your help!

Hi Seburo,

thanks for your reply. Sadly I have deleted all Firefox folders in an attempt to repair whatever damage was done and I have no crash reports available. about:crashes simply tells me no crash reports have been sent.

I'm also not sure if the crash is the problem here. It simply triggered Firefox to restart into the latest version of Firefox. With everything cleared out, just installing the latest Firefox manually always brings up this issue as well without a crash.

Installing a somewhat older version of Firefox (I used 61.0b8) works without any issues. But as soon as it auto-updates, the issue is back.

I'm sure it is something on my system, which makes it hard to figure out what's wrong. But Firefox is the only application having the issue and an older version of Firefox does not. I was hoping someone experienced something similar and could offer some help or ideas.
