For now, disconnect your web until the issue is solved, when using Firefox that is.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

starting in safe mode does not solve the problem. I have tried the following: rm -rf .mozilla and rm -rf .cache/mozilla. When I login to FF, the problems reappear.

Second experiment Took a Jan 2019 backup and took the above mentioned files. With second launch, FF is pulling down the problem as I presume it is attempting to sync.

I have a html backup of the bookmarks, if you need that. I have zero financial data and nothing confidential therein.

Do you have a bookmark integrity checker? My bookmarks toolbar is not in the right place. What do you recommend.

Does that remove your entire profile folder? It probably is better to rename it to preserve data.

Do you mean Firefox starts up with default settings, just the 15 or so built-in bookmarks, but those don't cause the problem. Then you connect to your Firefox Account and run Sync, and the problem returns?

At startup, Firefox normally would load a home page (it is possible to set Firefox to open numerous tabs) or restore your previous session windows and tabs. But it never should go opening bookmarks for no reason.

If your home page setting using Custom URLs, could you double-check that it doesn't list numerous addresses? (How to set the home page)

Do you have a bookmark integrity checker?

There is a "Verify Integrity" function on Firefox's Troubleshooting Information page. Either:

• "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help > Troubleshooting Information
• (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
• type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

Near the bottom, there is a section titled Places Database -- that's the file which stores history and bookmarks. Click the button labeled Verify Integrity. There may be a 10-15 second delay before results appear.

If all is well, the report that appears below the button should start with:

+ The places.sqlite database is sane
+ The favicons.sqlite database is sane

Does yours say that, or something else? You can select and copy the report, and then paste it into a reply for review and comment.

My bookmarks toolbar is not in the right place.

Do you mean it's missing, or it's blank?

I have tried all of the suggestions. I even took an older $HOME folder from January past. As soon as I log into firefox with login id and password, the very next launch of FF will erupt.

Correction to earlier email message. Problem is occurring with Centos (older version of FF) and appeared with Tumbleweed. I created a new logon but used the same credentials to log to FF, and problem is appearing with the new logon.

I am going to try one new test. I have the backup html file. I will wipe .mozilla and .cache/mozilla and then import the backup. It that works, then expect an update to this issue.

I have regular backups, so nothing is lost.

This action works for me temporarily bookmarks->show-all->import-backup->backup file created $HOME/bookmarks-2019-06-10.json rm -rf .mozilla ./cache/mozilla exit firefox and restart then import the $HOME/bookmarks-2019-06-10.json Firefox working without opening all bookmarks

What is your startup setting? You can check here:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste startup and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the browser.startup.page preference to display a dialog where you can check/correct the value:

• 0 => blank page
• 1 => your home page(s) {default}
• 2 => the last page viewed in Firefox
• 3 => previous session windows and tabs

You might try changing this to 0 (that's a zero) to see whether that has any effect, if you don't need to restore your previous session.

(4) Does the browser.startup.homepage preference have the expected value?

Here is what I noted before doing a sync action Loading the "bookmarks.html" file gives me wrong results. (It shows me that bookmarks.Toolbar was virgin empty but another version of "Booklmarks Toolbar" was elsewhere (Two Toolbar menu entries.

With the bookmarks and html load, I could see my bookmarks but not as distributed (Toolbar does not fill) as it does with next step.

I followed up by loading bookmarks-2019-06-10.json . It replaced the "bookmarks.html load" restored the bookmarks menu and toolbar as expected.

Is there a size limitation on bookmarks? I have around 400 of them altogether within sub-directory/subtree ?

400 isn't too many bookmarks. Automatically opening 400 tabs to all the bookmarked pages is a different question!!

Sounds that you are restoring tabs and not really bookmarks.

Are you syncing open tabs? You can try to change the password of the Sync account to clear all data on the Sync server.

I have a set of bookmarks. The problem as you recognized is FF is opening tabs, not windows. All my bookmarks are being opened as tabs. See the uploaded images that I provided.

Please email me/ send me a reminder note about logging into firefox sync to reset/change password. I will try anything to eliminate this buglet.

I am also quite prepared to provide my sync logon and password for you to duplicate, analyze and resolve this issue. Your being able to debug this issue will mean that a programmatic workaround can be introduced to FF that stops this problem.

If you tell me you want files, I will tar or zip them up and send them to an email address. I much prefer to give you my sync logon and password.

Worried about my personal data? I have no data in my bookmarks pertaining to any financial or personal information. I am from the old school where I do not trust the internet, and as a consequence, When I need to, I do get a proxy to do online purchases. I am awaiting a "mozilla vpn service" so I can do my own secured and encrypted connections.

As a side note, I am aware that FF version 68 is in beta, and I would hope that my 67. 0 issue is not something that gets carried to 68.0

On my one computer I run 6 different Linux distributions, and each of them runs FF with my account. Thats why I am following through to completion. Awaiting a response.
