Firefox uses much more memory than IE or Chrome, combined!

I'm on Win10 up-to-date. Firefox 65.0.1. Watching Task Mgr, I see FF load and consume 320MB+ (235MB+ in Safe Mode!). When I launch Chrome or IE (with similar add-ons), Chrome uses 195MB and IE is 65MB. This is ridiculous; I have always used FF; I even started back when Mozilla was known as Netscape!! But, I'm about to abandon FF and move to one of those other browsers. FF grows in its consumption of memory while I work until it's way over a gigabyte and it cripples my PC and I have to reboot. Sometimes, I close FF and try to restart it and I get a dialog box telling me it is still running. Again, this is ridiculous! This got substantially worse when this Quantum revision level began. It was never quite this bad before Quantum. I hate to see the day when I won't be able to use Firefox anymore but that day is coming soon!

What were you and the computer doing at the time? surfing, watching a clip, reading something on the screen . . . .

As a test, Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

I just said in my complaint that I tried Safe Mode and it didn't help!! Read the complaint! And, in answer to what I was doing at the time ... absolutely nothing; I was watching Task Manager showing how much memory FF was consuming doing NOTHING!

I'm having the same issue. I have FF with two tabs doing nothing and opened and it went to 1.1 GB of memory usage! There are always four processes running, each with way too much memory allocated. I've read and applied the article on reducing the memory usage and it hasn't helped one iota. I don't have extensions or addons, I limited hardware acceleration from 8 to 2 processes, because it said this would help with memory. Absolutely no help.

Maybe the developers can put some code in place that if a computer doesn't have much memory it will limit itself to one process? I don't care if my browser is slower, I just don't want it to take down my entire computer as it swaps out everything else to accommodate FF.

Thanks much.

Maybe the developers can . . . . . .
