I had been using firefox for years without a problem and all of the sudden today it started crashing. first it was the newly opened tabs but now even about:home crashes, about:addons crashes, Tried uninstalling and deleting APPDATA mozilla folders, still same problem. If I manually type www.google.com it gets there no problem but once I hit search it crashes. I submitted few crash reports bp-5361b127-3a0e-4a53-bfca-f96e00181213 bp-1ed948b2-9c81-4062-810c-7e1090181213 I am getting this in the report ' jsimd_idct_islow_avx2' but earlier it was a different message. Recently ORIGIN got updated and I installed logitech setpoint to connect my keyboard to the receiver and then I uninstalled setpoint and all logitech software related to mouse and keyboard. Sidenote I just clicked on Search Mozilla Support for this signature and it got me to the website without crashing.

Please let me know if you need any additional information. Thank You

Thanks for a quick response, Windows is up to date. I did notice 3 updates yesterday. Also, Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

Is the problem still there?

Let’s do a full clean re-install;

Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link}

Save the file. Then Close Firefox.

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Note: Check Both Folders

Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-download-and-install-firefox-mac

Linux: Check your user manual. If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it. See Install Firefox on Linux; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux

If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder Firefox in your home directory. http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Look for, and remove any Mozilla or Firefox program folders. Do not remove the Mozilla Thunderbird folder if there is one.

Do Not remove any profile folders.

After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner if you have one. Then run the installer. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ If there is a problem, start your Computer in safe mode and try again.

This looks like a problem with decoding JPG images. So the crashes might not (won't) happen on websites that do not have JPG images.

Does Firefox or the tab crash if you open a JPG image in a tab?

Try to Clear the Cache and remove the Cookies from websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Remove the Cookies" from websites that cause problems:

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data -> Manage Data

"Clear the Cache":

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data -> Clear Data -> Cached Web Content: Clear

You can create a new profile to test if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

Uninstalled Firefox Removed Mozilla folder from APPDATA Roaming, LocalLow, Local. Rebooted the computer, Ran CCleaner (it found some issues but nothing that had mozilla or firefox in it, so I didnt delete any files) Installed fresh Firefox and as soon as I hit launch the tab had crashed. f7b0ac6b-6052-4efc-9407-9d708ecad3bb Closed firefox. Deleted existing profile and created a new one. Tabs are still crashing. If I go to Add-Ons then windows crashes the firefox rather than just the tab crashing.

I did some research and it seems NVIDIA drivers were the issue. I updated the drivers and the problem seems to went away.

Thank You

Firefox tabs are crashing again. I was watching youtube and left it on youtube site while I left and let the computer go to sleep. I came back. youtube is working fine but then I wanted to open another tab, about:home is working but then once I clicked on facebook the tab crashed. It gets to facebook for about a split second and then crashes, so then I tried another site and it crashed. bp-494c4b88-8f4a-4563-a9d5-283d20181214 bp-8851ba09-700a-4a70-b4c8-6b19c0181214

Chrome and IE work fine. Actually I just closed firefox while youtube was still playing and tried to open firefox again and about:home crashes as well. Unlike previously add-ons page doesnt crash.

I removed Nvidia 3d driver and Nvidia audio driver (since I am using a sound card) and so far FireFox launched and tabs didn't crash. I am wondering if I let computer sleep if the issue will surface again as it did the last time.

Only one way to find out. Good luck.

Little Update, This morning I moved my Ethernet cable from Intel LAN card to Realtek (both present on my asus mobo) and the tab crashing went away. Had the firefox open all day, mostly on youtube, newegg, facebook. All was great until about 2 minutes ago when I tried to open another tab and it crashed and every tab I open crashes now. (Edit, I didnt update or install anything, didnt remove any software either) bp-5e7ef4d1-73bc-43d3-b70e-1bc770181214 bp-ed991c7a-174a-4b0a-85c9-cc12d0181214

This sentence is machine translation.

I have this problem. It has occurred since updating to FF64. Crash when JPEG image is loaded after returning from system sleep. Looking at the same problem crash report, CPU seems to be occurring in Intel Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge. These CPUs do not support AVX2. All crash reports are from the 32 bit version, but reports could not be sent in the 64 bit version. JPEG decoder has been updated with FF64, I think this is the cause.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

Close and restart Firefox after modifying the setting for changes to take effect.

You can check if there is an update for your graphics display driver and check for hardware acceleration related issues.
