Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; (<Control> [Mac=<Command>] <Shift> A)

In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions. Remove “ Yahoo “ Anything.

Also remove SafeSearch, SearchAssist Incognito, FileConverter Addon, SearchLock, DiscreteSearch, WebSearch, Findwide Search Engine

Now do the same in the computer’s Programs Folder.

Windows: Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs. Mac: Open the Applications folder. Linux: Check your user manual.

Hi sunnyskyez, can you link this with a specific process, such as quitting and restarting Firefox, or shutting down and restarting your Mac? Or is it more random?

If none of the checks FredMcD suggested allow you to resolve the issue, the next time it appears, could you extract out the information in the search settings file. Here's how:

Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either

• "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help > Troubleshooting Information
• (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
• type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

In the first table on the page, on the Profile Folder row, click the "Show in Finder" button. If Finder highlights an icon with a semi-random name like a1b2c3d4.default, double-click it to display the contents of that profile folder.

Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and open this page:

Then resize the Finder window so you can see the white box on that page and drag-and-drop the search.json.mozlz4 file onto it.

After a few moments, the decompressed contents of the file should appear in the box, and after several more seconds, a table showing where the various search engines load from. What does the Yahoo one show?

Hello Gentlemen, Thank you both, I apologize Ive been busy with work to reply sooner.

1st) Fred- no extensions for yahoo. Ive used the finder as well nothing for yahoo in my Mac, same goes for the safe search stuff Thank you for trying.

2) jscher- I will try your suggestion next then get back to you. In the mean time here is a screen print of the search prefs.

I followed your instructions, the folder that showed up in the 'show in finder' was called "8umnmshz.default". I went to your page and it would load up the file name but showed '0 as being loaded'. See my 2 screen shots. Please advise.

Hi sunnyskyez, thank you for the screenshot. Finder showed the icon for your profile folder, but not its contents. To proceed, double-click the profile folder icon. Then you can access the search.json.mozlz4 file.

Hi sunnyskyez, it looks like Yahoo hasn't come back yet. Sorry, I think you'll need to check again when it returns and before you remove it again.

If a Yahoo results page shows up even when Firefox is sending searches to a different site, then an extension would be the suspect. Don't assume it will have Yahoo in the name, although it may mention search. Assume it is "hiding in plain sight." Any extensions Firefox installs for built-in features are hidden from the Extensions panel of the Add-ons page, so everything listed there is your choice (and your responsibility) to manage. Anything suspicious or that you just do not remember installing or why? If in doubt, disable (or remove).

OK- Thanks jscher, next time it happens I will screen shot and do everything you told me to. Maybe we can figure it out.

Firefox from mozilla.org does not even come with Yahoo as a search engine option anymore since Fx 57 and later due in part with the legal dispute with Yahoo.

Something else is adding in a Yahoo search engine. There is was case of a Yaahoo malware if I recall for example.
