Hi JLhillhouse, does this one install and work for you?

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/new-tab-homepage/

(Note: I can't test it because it can't load file:// home pages like mine, only http: or https: home pages)

Hello JLhillhouse,

Instead of clicking on the plus symbol (<big>+</big>) to open a new tab, you could just click on Ctrl + the home button.

Would that work for you  ?

thank you for the suggestion but when i hit ctl + it changes the view size? i still would like to find out how to ask this question of the developers? do you have any ideas/

I was talking about Ctrl + the home button instead of pressing Ctrl plus the <big>+</big> symbol on the tab bar (next to the current tab (not the Ctrl and <big>+</big> keyboard shortcut) .......

Pressing Ctrl plus the home button doesn't open your
home page  ?

Then what does it open  ?

Maybe you'll need to change your home page setting :

If nothing else works for you, maybe you could give this extensions a try - it sets Yahoo as your home page and as the New Tab page :

(see under "About this extension")

I think Nightly should be recognized as Firefox when visiting the Add-ons site. Do you get told to install Firefox when you try to install other extensions?

I understand preferring to have a built-in feature, but consider that you have needed an extension since Firefox 41 -- released on September 22, 2015 -- to override the built-in new tab page. If that hasn't changed in the past three years, what are the odds it will change now?

Anyway, here in support we work with the Firefox we have today and can suggest relevant features, available settings changes, and workarounds such as add-ons. If those do not suit your needs, you can submit comments and suggestions through one or more of the following links:

thank you for all the effort but this takes me to the "generic" yahoo home page not my individual home page as the home button does when i save the sight to it. I just do not understand why the developers can be notified to see if they can add this feature????? if you or anyone else know please let me know. thanks again

If you have set your home page to the page you of your choice, and you want every new tab to start with that page, then why won't you just click Ctrl + the home button every time you want a new tab to open  ?

Seemed so simple to me, but apparantly I'm missing something .....

Using Customize, you can drag and drop the house icon up on the Tabs bar --

-- but it may be hard to get into the habit of holding down the Ctrl key when clicking it.

I had a disabled NTO extension in my Nightly profile and got a button on the Addons page to enable this extension. When I enabled this extension then the button change to a Remove button. When I removed NTO then the button changed to the Add button. So currently the Addons website is rather powerful and probably uses a lot of JavaScript. This would mean that any JavaScript that is blocked can/will cause issues, so check for issues caused by content blocking extensions.

If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) that can block (wanted) content (Adblock Plus, NoScript, Disconnect, Ghostery, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin) always make sure such extensions do not block (wanted) content.

Chosen answer says to use https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/new-tab-homepage/, but this doesn't work for me because my homepage is a local file. In the options screen, under "New Windows and Tabs", there are two sections: "Homepage and new windows" and "New tabs". These two entries should support the same options. It is impossible for any add-on to accomplish this, because the new add-on API prevents add-ons from accessing or redirecting to a local file. I shouldn't have to run a webserver on my machine just to get my personalized homepage to work.
