Each file should have the date and number of items coded into its name. (The files are compressed, so don't try to open them directly.)
</p><p>If you copied those files to the corresponding bookmarkbackups folder in your new profile, then you should be able to restore one of them using the Restore menu in the Library window, as described in the following article:

</p><p>Please do not install old versions of Nightly. It's better to stick with the Release channel unless you like testing bleeding edge/unstable software. Also, as the name implies, Nightly updates every day.

I uninstalled Firefox and made sure to delete all documentation folders ....mozilla\firefox\profiles...etc. This time installed v. 62 Nightly. I Selected "Never Ask to Install Updates" and restarted. At startup I was advised the Firefox is installing updates and it did so to v. 63. Chrome has its flaws, but nothing quite as egregious as this. That confirms in the issue that started this I remember checking "Check for updates but let you choose to install..." Firefox auto installed the updates that created the problem above.
