A message appeared saying that Firefox was opening slowly and it suggested that I click a "Refresh" button. I did this and it changed my Firefox layout completely. I very much liked the previous layout with the "Find in Page" choice and box, the choice between opening a new tab or a new window (I prefer windows to tabs), etc. I am going to switch browsers unless there is a way to return to the previous Firefox layout. By the way I downloaded and installed the ESR version and also Firefox 59.03 and with both I got the new, horrible layout. Further the annoying "Pocket" and sponsored pages, etc. material, which I had deleted, returned. On top of this I am mad that the "Firefox is opening slowly" message did not state that clicking "Refresh" would change my entire page layout.

Thank you. I replaced the new Firefox Profile with the old one in Old Firefox but Firefox will not open with the old profile. However I have spent a bit of time configuring the Profile Firefox has made for so that the layout has most of the same functionality as the old one. So I now consider my problem solved.

Refreshing Firefox {web link} is a LAST RESORT ! !

Refreshing Firefox -- easily fix most problems

If you're having problems with Firefox, refreshing it can help. The refresh feature fixes many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information like bookmarks and open tabs. Everything else, like user settings and add-ons, are removed.

Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder called; Old Firefox?

That was very good work. Well done.

I use an add-on that makes backups of my user profile, Just In Case. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with the current Firefox.

Every now and then, open the profile folder and create a copy of the current profile as is to another location on your hard drive. This way you will have a backup.

If you do this each day, you will not lose much data. This should be done with Firefox Closed.

Note: In case you need to restore from these backups, you may need to overwrite old or corrupted files.
