Yes, but when your browser loads a web page, that web page can run scripts. That script can do all sorts of things right? Including saving cookies.... so it's not a stretch to say that those same script might be able to read cookies from other sites.

Thanks for the link. My privacy tracking is set to always on as well as the "Do not track" feature. Isn't the shortcoming of privacy tracking that it is only a "request" to the website to not be tracked?

Something tells me Facebook does not honor this. I normally only open and log into the facebook page for a short time to check postings and messages from family and friends. I then log out and close the tab. Recently, I left the tab open and stayed logged in all day. When I came back in the next day and started scrolling down, I noticed car ads. In years of using facebook I never once saw a car ad. It just happens that I had another window open with car buying websites.

I hope the articles McCoy sent you were useful ! Like the guardian says, websites keep information about your IP and what you do on their website. Each website can read its own cookies. For exemple, Facebook cannot read the cookies you have from Amazon. Howether, Amazon can sell the information they gathered about your IP to Facebook. And then Facebook can use it to your page.
