Yes and no. The agent did that for a reason it is called a Refresh and it turns Firefox back to stock download. It would be best to do the Customization again but you can recover a few things.

You can copy files like these with Firefox closed to the current profile folder to recover specific data.

• logins.json (passwords) and key4.db (58+) or key3.db (57 and older) (decryption key) for Passwords saved in the Password Manager
• if you only have key3.db then make sure to remove an existing key4.db
• cert9.db (58+) or cert8.db (57 and older) for (intermediate) certificates stored in the Certificate Manager
• if you only have cert8.db then make sure to remove an existing cert9.db
• persdict.dat for words you added to the spelling checker dictionary
• permissions.sqlite for Permissions and possibly content-prefs.sqlite for other website specific data (Site Preferences)
• sessionstore.jsonlz4 for open tabs and pinned tabs (see also the sessionstore-backups folder)

Thank you for that information. I hoped it would be easier than that. However, please let me be more specific. I have manually reset my home page, redid my customizations - but there is one problem I still have. When I open Firefox, it does go to the new home page; when I type in the search box (i.e. Norton support), it does open up Google (my preferred search engine) in a new "tab". So far so good. The links in the Google search are as they should be. Here's my issue, if I right-click on any link; it immediately opens a new tab BUT before the reset, I was able to right-click a link and see the normal "right click menu options" - I would then select "open tab in a new window (or new tab?"). That no longer happens, even though I tried installing some Firefox addons and checked my preferences. No right click menu, right-clicking a link creates a new tab but Firefox doesn't switch to it immediately like it used to. Furthermore, and I don't know if this is a different issue. When I type "about config" in the address bar, I get the message that the server can not be found. Anything you can suggest to fix these issues would be most greatly appreciated.

Possibly could figure out ways but let's skip that and just go to new. uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files , C:\Program Files(x86) & C:\ProgramData Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do :

You've addressed my concern that in doing so, I would lose bookmarks and passwords, etc. Now that you have given me the "go ahead" along with the links I will need, I will follow your advice and let you know how I made out. Please forgive me, it's 10:30 PM where I am, and it's been a long day (lol). I will bid you good night for now, and will start on your instructions tomorrow when I am fresh and alert (I've learned not to work on fixing a problem when you're tired - that's when mistakes happen). Good Morning Pkshadow, I thought I found the solution - by going to the menu>options>Home>set new tab to blank. I could have sworn that it WAS the solution - it seemed to work. I went back to my PC a little while later, and when I Googled a question, yes it open the search results in a new tab, but when I went to right click on it, the menu options did NOT appear - instead it immediately started a new tab with the result, but FF did not switch to it - I had to manually put my cursor on that tab and click on it to open it.

However, (I just edited this post), the strangest thing is that if I hover over my Mr_Bear icon on the left side of the posts, THEN when I right-click on it, yes I get that menu box with the option to open in a new tab???!

This is just crazy. I guess I really will have to follow your advice to uninstall and reinstall FF. Wish me luck. -Mr_Bear

OK - this whole issue has taken on a life of it's own. However, my problem "appears" to have been corrected. When I originally started trying to fix it myself, one of the things I did was to get to add-ons from Mozilla - "Blank New Tab" and "New Tab From Location Bar". I thought that those would correct the problem. Not so. After finding out that my early morning fix didn't really work (and other items seemed not as they should be) I restarted my PC, did a soft shutdown, restarted again, then ran a "Disk Check" (which made some corrections to the file system), then ran the System File Check from an elevated command prompt (orb>programs>accessories>right-click on command prompt-run as administrator -- then type in "sfc /scannow" without the quotes and a space between the "c" and the "/") - it found no errors. Then I went back to FF and looked at those 2 extensions I added and I DISABLED them. Voila - everything is as it was before. My home page is correctly set. When I right-click on a link in Google Search, it opens up immediately in a new tab, just like it used to - using the right click menu options which have now reappeared. After that "reset" that was done without my permission, I also noticed I had to reinstall the "Ublock" add-on for Mozilla and add back in some items from the customize option under the menu icon. A full 24 hours of poking around and learning....well, all seems alright at last. Sorry for such long posts and a very long thread. I will monitor it in case anyone out there has a similar problem and wants me to clarify anything (please also follow/print out Pkshadow's very helpful instructions - they will be a lifesaver if/when the time comes. -Mr_Bear
