As of right now, I did everything you suggested and for the time being it is not blocking my homepage on Firefox. I will give it a day or two to see if it continues to do the trick. The mshelper may have been erased. Can I tell if it is gone off of my computer? I am not sure how to see this. Thank you so much for your help.

Hi, Welcome If you deleted those files you have cut the cord, reboot your modem or ...whatever also helps if it a new Russian one this week. No all the info I had on that since it is new and effects about 500 thousand Macs when published. Did you run this program as was suggested in the article ? https://etrecheck.com/

I ran malwarebytes and etrecheck and I assume that one of these programs removed mshelper. I will make sure tomorrow, after everything is turned off and rebooted that it still is ok and hopefully gone forever. The only thing that I am not sure of is both malwarebytes or etrecheck did not tell me that they were removing mshelper or that they found any threats. Don't either of these programs explain what they are removing? I'm glad they did and thanks again.

Hi, Welcome, is what we do here is fix things :=} Did you not look for the files and path as per article 1st ?

If not getting redirected I am sure they did.

Malwarebytes should have popup'd a report window for permission to clean it/quarantine it. My experience is in Windows Malwarebytes but still should have asked and shown what was found. Malwarebytes : Click on Reports and save as a txt file. and should tell you clearly along with the path and registry key if any. As for etrecheck 1st I have heard of the program myself but the site howtogeeks is respected and full of helpful information. I browse it daily so that know if interests me or useful. There should be some sort of log or history that it creates.

As you say tomorrow is another day have a look see if can figure the above out. Glad to have helped.

Hi, that is a local URL not a web address.

Did you download and install something shortly before this started. If so uninstall it.

These are suppose to work for a MAC
