Turned on Firefox after a week off and saw a blank browser - the menu, bookmarks and apps all gone. This isn't the first time Firefox has 'fixed' things and made them worse! This time though I am totally fed up with it and gone over to Opera - which appears to work quickly and consistently. The benefits I had with Firefox have gradually been eroded by updates so now FF just isn't worth the trouble.

I have used FF since its early days but now it appears that the king is senile and no longer fit to rule - there are many 'princes' waiting to take its place.

All you saw was a blank screen?

Some problems occur when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;

  • Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
  • Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see

Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet. {web link}

No, I saw a newly installed firefox without my normal bookmarks and apps.

When filling in the form it asked for FF version and I looked it up. Soon after sending, a message came up saying there was a new update to version 60.

I installed that and had 2 firefox screens - one with the all too common message 'not responding' still no bookmarks. There were also a plethoria of adverts including a full page pop-up for some game featuring a scantily clad female.

Hi, let's deal with the scantily clad 1st please : It seems a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista if you don't already have one. Windows 8/10 have antivirus protection built-in.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

For the Tiles I think you call ads , open a New Tab and go to the Gear Icon at top right and Click, you can turn off some or all there.

Please make sure you do not have 2 versions of Firefox now installed also please.

Please look for a Folder on your Desktop called Old Firefox Profile, Is it there ? If yes, can help with bookmarks. Please check here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data to see if you have 2 Profiles. If yes can help you.

Please see here for Extensions : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/extensions/
