How do I remove tab browsing after refreshing Firefox..?

more options

Hello, Until recently my Firefox had always happily run in 'tabless' mode, which I very much prefer. However, on advice from TalkTalk after some slow internet issues, yesterday I refreshed Firefox and can't get rid of the awful tab bar. I found a 'chrome' profile folder routine which can hide it, but the browser is still tab-based, causing problems with deleting multiple tabs because I can't select them indivdually. I've got around this by making the tab bar 10 px high so I can just about see the tabs with the least vertical space lost, but it's a very unhappy compromise... I don't know what version of Firefox I was using before the refresh, but it was updating fine; now I'm on v52.7.3 Your thoughts will be most welcome. Thanks.

I created an extension for people who hate tabs: any time Firefox creates a new tab, the extension moves it to a new separate window instead. This takes a split second in Firefox 52 ESR; it's faster in Firefox 59 (but you may not be ready for that for other reasons? oh, it's because 52 is the last version for Vista).

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/i-hate-tabs-sdi-for-firefox/

The extension does not address the visual issue of the tab bar, but it sounds as though you already know how to modify that and just need this other part.

Hi, this may work for you if switch or can just use it : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/hide-tab/ Now it says to use this you have to open a Tab or Window and type about:config in the address bar then enter and then do this : extensions.webextensions.tabhide.enabled to true

(note there are others here that know about:config much better and there maybe another way to hide them)

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Thanks jscher2000, I've been road-testing your extension and it works like a dream for me!

You might want to think about combining it with the 'chrome' profile folder fix as this would seem to provide a total solution... https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1185935

Anyway thanks again... and Death To Tabs!!
