With the update to version 57.0, Classic Theme no longer works. I'm very disappointed. When will it be available again?

Hello, I'm sorry to inform you CTR won't be compatible with Firefox 57, but if you need most of the changes it makes, check out this userChrome.css made by the add-on developer to help you get that goodie but oldie look you prefer back! https://github.com/Aris-t2/CustomCSSforFx

Now, with the "update" to 57.0, to get the customization I want, I need to jump through all sorts of hoops, many of which are above my level of know-how. Sheesh... All I want is text with icons on the menu bar. Not to be spiteful, truth be told, but this is exactly why I'm moving from Firefox to a different browser.

you will be hard pressed to find a browser that's more customizable than firefox though ;-)

Ah yes, that theoretical customisability really is useful when the fact is that you've removed a ton of highly functional and needed addons and are reduced to advising an end user (!) to modify registry values (!!!). Sheesh, now is not the time to congratulate yourself on how great Firefox is. I personally have reverted back to a previous version, and will use that for now. Luckily I know how. Eventually, though, I (and undoubtedly many others, especially those who use their browser more than just casually) will have to decide whether to remain with FF or to find an alternative, and right now - and especially with that attitude coming from a top contributor and a moderator - I'm not really feeling the love and am going to seriously consider a switch. And don't think that I won't do it, I've done it twice already, the last time FF being the winner.

I am having similar problems, in addition to not having my address bar on top (and being unable to find an option to restore that), losing access to Rikai-chan, and my status bar being gone. I am not looking forward to changing to a new browser, and I won't have the time to revert to the previous version of Firefox so that I can have the add-ons and customization set-up I prefer back until this weekend, but with the attitude already shown here I expect to be eventually switching away from Firefox. I have been using it since 3.21, and mainly stuck with it because of the high degree of customization available and the fact that I could have something reasonably close to a true browser look, after all I still use it on a real computer, complete with keyboard and mouse, and I don't have a practical need for this maximized screen space crap that Chrome started or the touch optimized controls. Try playing Starcraft, Warcraft, Diablo II, Titan Quest, Sins of a Solar Empire, Sword of the Stars, or Endless Space without a mouse, trust me when I say that it is highly impractical to flat out impossible, and those are the types of PC games I play so keeping with a more classical styled browser on my computer works just fine for me, in fact it works better than fine. With the latest drop in customization options I no longer see a true difference between Firefox and the competition.

By the way, the latest version is running 7 simultaneous processes even though I only have 5 windows open. It might actually be taking more system resources now than it was before, which is more than enough justification to me to get rid of it after finding something more efficient to replace it with.

That an add-on so ubiquitous within the Firefox user community could be overlooked by the developers like this is absolutely astounding to me.

CSS won't change Icons to text, will it? That is the main thing I want Classic Theme Restorer for. I want text in toolbars, not inscrutible icons. This is all on account of stupid mobile device users, isn't it?

Boy does this suck, I understand folks need to get use to it, but to eliminate the users choice of using the classic theme restorer is ridiculous.

I think Im gonna start using another browser to see if I can tailor any of them.

This is what I want to left side of the menu bar to look like.

Inscrutable icons? I think they're quite intuitive. From left to right:

Check signal strength End daylight savings Summon Lone Ranger Add a top hat Go to the dog house Play dominoes Measure width of a star

How about looking at these 2 URL's first : https://www.howtogeek.com/333110/how-to-customize-firefox-quantum-and-remove-the-white-space-around-the-title-bar/ and The name is not descriptive enough : https://www.howtogeek.com/332449/whats-new-in-firefox-quantum/

More information will come out slowly. New extensions are being made and some older ones being updated that can track here : http://bit.ly/2j0Anlj

Make it look a little like previous version Here's a more comprehensive project which affects not only tabs but brings back the old "grid-style" options menu. https://github.com/axydavid/FirefoxUI/blob/master/README.md

t isn't completely possible to use the Australis design with Firefox 57, but depending on what you want, you might be able to customize the UI to look more like the old one:

This project: https://github.com/wilfredwee/photon-australis lets you have the old tab bar appearance back in Firefox 57.
You can remove the space around the address bar by right-clicking on the spaces, and choosing "remove from toolbar".

Note the Black Theme is a Example and can be found in Customize

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

None of these things will replace icons with text in toolbars. It is not about making pretty-pretty. It is about basic functionality. That's why I want Classic Theme Restorer back Some responders act as if it were a matter of pretty colors and rainbows.

I know the company staff will ignore my positon as Firefox has done since it's inception. I am elder now, on Disability due to a bld fire in NYC (where btw I used to do financial graphics on Wall Street so I know a bit about good design and ease of use)... and after each change I have to spend much time (thanks to others outside of firefox that create these add on's). I have no idea how to get the classic look back with my yahoo toolbar. I see from the answers above one can not. Faster but useless now to me.

I have black colors, a hideous front page with pictures that blast out at me and small icons at the bottom whereas before one could have thesese boxes (of images not sure what they are called) with one's most frequently visited places... and yahoo which no matter what anyone thinks it enabled me to quickly do what I needed.

I DESPISE your staff for NOT caring about the customers who made you what you are.

Background degrees in both science and art - brain psychology (the eye perceives but the brain "sees") I do not want your choice of "pretty" images, but functionality. While I applaude the new speed the rest means I will now have to find yet again another option.

You are obviously gearing up for the younger generation - Ameritrade did that (use to trade stocks) with their pretty blue on blue gray on white (low hue brain can't see) and I and those with major millions went to an alternative - in spite of many complaining and even asking me what should they do??? they never went back to what used to work exceptionally well.

WASTE of every one's time - no thanks.

And one last thing, you solutions always seem to take a degree - mine are not in computer coding or anything close. I would not expect you to know advanced biology whey do you expect the "common" being to be able to follow your instructions.

Please return the classic theme restorer and yahoo toolbar.

By the way - what happened to the choice of "Do NOT update". which I had selected just for this reason. Forced over everyone - tyrannical company.

Do I want this image in my face - I haven't even had my coffee yet. Totally useless waste of space - prior images lined up in a grid showing most frequent places visited. Which person designed this crud - do you even use firefox. I am very upset - I had housing issues to deal with today - now all I had created is gone due to your "decisions" even as I had marked "NO upgrades".

How do I get the new page to look like this and not the creature above.

How do I get the black background removed - hard to read.

How to I add a new toolbar since you won't allow yahoo toobar or classic theme, forcing me to use and OLD ei!!!

In simple common language please.

I hope that Firefox comes to their senses and allows whatever it is Theme restorer need to work again. I JUST WANT THE OLD SEARCH BACK! I hate the new search and how you can't choose what search engine to use intill AFTER you type what your searching, and what's worse is I can just leave it set to a certain search engine without making it my default. GIVE US OUR CHOICES BACK FIREFOX! STOP TAKING USEFUL FEATURE AWAY! ACTUALLY LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE THAT USE FIREFOX! PLEASE!!!!! I'm getting SO sick of my add-ons becoming useless with each update!

Just for my two cents - Firefox isn't a stand-alone product. It's a combination of the browser AND the add ons that shape it to the needs of the user. As far as I'm concerned? When Mozilla completely ignored its users and shoved this revision through without giving any thought to WHY Firefox was popular, they destroyed the product. It's broken and unsalvageable. It's fortunate that enough good people saw this coming and DID do something about it. I'm using one of those replacement browsers now and after a few weeks of hard use, I'm so sorry I didn't switch sooner. Waterfox seems to be just about everything Firefox kept claiming it was but never provided.
