When opening a link or bookamark, the tab shows that it's Connecting... but doesn't finish or even start loading it. Then it switches to New Tab after a while and forgets the url. The same time the browser can open other urls easily. This behaviour occures since the last big update to 53.0.

This can happen if an extension or security software is blocking this URL.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.

Sorry for not answering, the problem didn't occured inthe past days. Today it stated again, so I tired troubleshooting it with the articles you provided. It seems to be in colerration with bad internet connection. When I switched to safe mode, the tabs were not able to load, ut I got timeout and server not found error messages and the browser didn't forgot the urls. Then I switched out HW acceleration, it seems to be better now but I'm not sure wether the internet connection became temporarily better or this solved my problem. I'll get back to this topic when I have more info. Thanks for your help!

Contact your ISP and have them check your service.

The problem could also be your modem/wireless boxes. Pull the plug on both and do a slow count of 10. Then plug them back in. This should make them do a hard reboot.
