Hi

I strongly recommend you update your copy of Firefox. This will ensure that you have the latest security and stability fixes as well as new features that have been released. You can read more about how to update here.

If you are having a problem with Flash, I recommend you have a read of this guide that has some troubleshooting tips that you may want to try.

I hope this helps, but if not, please come back here and we can look into a different solution for you.

Please turn off your caps lock.

If you have problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions then check this:

  • see if there are updates for your graphics drivers

https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration

  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)

  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

When do you get the message that "shockplayer flash is busy"?

Could you check your current Flash player version on these pages:

Also, could you check what Firefox is telling sites about its ability to handle HTML5 video. Youtube has a useful test page where usually the first 5 boxes are blue and the last is red. What does yours look like:

https://www.youtube.com/html5

It is the latest version of adobe it can handle the HTML5 video the shockplayer flash is busy comes on has soon has it tries to connect to the video it then crashes and after a minute or so it says oops something has gone wrong refresh the browser and it just crashes again!!!!

Hi david2011, could you tell me your results on the YouTube HTML5 test page? YouTube normally will not use the Flash player if your Firefox can play HTML5 video. Instead, it will bypass Flash and use built-in browser features. Obviously that doesn't solve problems you have with Flash on sites that require it, but I want to get an understanding of your Firefox video capabilities.

I don't understand the numbers. There are six boxes with different codes in them on the following page. Which ones are blue and which ones are red?

Html video element/h.264/webm vp8/media source extensions/mse&h.264/ are blue. mse&webm vp9 is red.

Hi david2011, thank you for that report. With those results, YouTube should be serving you MSE & H.264 video instead of Flash video, and you should not get Flash errors on YouTube. Unless you are using of the add-ons that forces Flash on YouTube, which I do not recommend.

Many other sites still use Flash, though, so that still needs to be solved.

In one reply you mentioned problems with email as well as video. What was the problem with email?

Has Firefox been crashing out to the Mozilla Crash Reporter dialog? In that case, your Firefox may have logged some data that would help track down the cause of the problem. You can submit that data to Mozilla and share it with forum volunteers to see whether it points to the solution. Please check the support article "Firefox crashes - asking for support" for steps to get those crash report IDs from the about:crashes page, and then post some of the recent ones here.

Youtube is fine but after update42 it will not play videos in yahoo and it effects the e-mails as well by saying shockplayer flash is busy sometimes it takes 2-3 attempts before the e-mails come in.

Hi David, Sorry you are having these problems with FlashPlayer on Firefox. They do seem rather unusual problems so in addition to the Crash IDs I think some screenshots may help us understand the problem.

Are you able to attach screenshots of

I am not sure why such a message would appear on emails, unless either they have embedded Video; or it relates to the adverts from the provider. I am sure a screenshot of that would help. However this is public forum, please edit out any private of confidential information.

The Windows snipping tool may be useful, that will produce suitable screenshots and allows you to crop by selecting an area and edit with some simple built-in tools so you can black out your email address and content.

The Add images [Browse ...] option under where you type replies allows you to attach the screenshots, and they appear in the final post as clickable thumbnails.
