Firefox prevents from installing unverified extension

more options

Firefox 44 prevented me from installing completely safe, but unverified extension, until I haven't opened about:config and set

xpinstall.signatures.required

to false.

Question 1: Why Firefox (i.e., its developers) do not give the option to install extension without forcing the above setting? Add whatever amount of warnings if you feel like that. But removing that option is definitely overreaching your (developers') station.

Question 2: Will the above config option remain in future versions?

I am concerned that developers are trying to remove users from security options choice even in cases when, politely saying, it's none of their business.

Chosen solution

1. It is installed on my computer. That's basically, none of Mozilla's business what extensions I wish to use.

2. OK, so sanity has left the Mozilla developers. Sad, but true.

1. Your opinion that Mozilla is overreaching their rights to control what is installed in Firefox.

https://wiki.mozilla.org/Addons/Extension_Signing#Timeline Firefox 46: Release and Beta versions of Firefox will not allow unsigned extensions to be installed, with no override.

The responses didn't solve the problem, but I see no point in discussing it further. Is it possible to close the issue without marking it as resolved?
