Oh, I am so very sorry, I just discovered that I was looking in the wrong place for it! I was assuming it was supposed to be in the drop-down box of "accept third-party cookies" (which only gave "Always / From visited / Never. Well, I just now happened to click, by sheer chance, "keep until" which is where the "Ask me every time" was actually located.

Note that the "Ask me" choice for cookies will be removed in Firefox 44+ and will be treated like ACCEPT_NORMALLY (network.cookie.lifetimePolicy = 0).

This is most distressing as I've used this option extensively for years. Can someone explain why the "Ask me" choice for cookies will be removed in Firefox 44+?

Hi hiptech, I'm not really sure why it was removed, the bug comments seems to indicate it caused crashes for some people, but there may well be documents outside the system that provide more insight.

I personally stopped using it due to the annoying deluge of prompts and switched to Firefox accepting cookies for the current session and manually making exceptions when I wanted a site to be able to set a persistent cookie. This was on top of a base collection of block permissions for third party sites, which you probably also have already. Those stay in effect.

In addition to the built-in cookie management options, there are many add-ons which offer different approaches. For example:

• Self-Destructing Cookies: retains cookies until you close all tabs for that site (or you can indicate that you want to keep a site's cookies): https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/self-destructing-cookies/

Perhaps someone will bring back "Ask me every time" in a new way that isn't as annoying.

I too am extremely disappointed that this "OPTION" has be deleted. WTH

I don't want  a zillion cookies tracking my every move. Some are needed but most are not needed. This will be very tedious controlling cookies now, thank you so much.

Reasons I found for deleting this option are childish. I have Never had an issue with that setting nor ever seen a complaint about it.

If you set the preference for third party cookies to "ask me every time" Firefox displays a modal dialog box for every cookie it encounters. This is bad for a number of reasons:

-It exposes far too much detail about the underlying implementation of the Web

-It forces the user to make a ridiculous number of decisions before visiting a Web site. For instance, amazon.com produces 8 dialog boxes, and ebay.com 15.

-Even informed users will not always have enough information to make an informed choice.

Are you serious?!?!?!? If it for some reason bothers you then just simply don't use it but at least let us that do understand it and use it have the option to do so.

You can check the "Accept third-party cookie" settings and possibly select "From visited".

You can set network.cookie.thirdparty.sessionOnly to true on the about:config page to make third-party cookies behave as session cookies that expire when Firefox is closed.

You can create a cookie 'allow' exception to keep specific cookies and let the cookies expire when Firefox is closed.

By removing the option, every user who wants to manage cookies now has to manually edit the exceptions list for each site you want to have cookies permanently stored. That is just... stupid.

Seriously, the person who made the decision to remove the function based on those reasons should be fired.

I think this a very retrograde step for Firefox!

Yes I can install a cookie manager addon, and yes, I agree with the Bug reported way back in 2008 about the amount of dialog boxes that will pop up on certain sites (like Apple, or microsoft!)

Google is particularly insidious for tracking cookies - and I'm sure you all know they are not just "google.com" etc.

I cannot believe that Firefox (a) has deleted the "ask me every time" option and (b) didn't tell anyone. Mozilla - are you kidding? This option is the #1 reason I have preferred and contributed to Firefox. What are you trying to do? Imitate Google Chrome? Your excuses for this are flat out wrong, false and misleading. There is no add-on that duplicates this easy to use and easy to understand option. Put it back, and do it now.

By the way, this problem has not been "solved", and the "solved" checkmark should be removed.

Discussion about workarounds for the new situation in Firefox 44 should be moved to a new thread. Feel free to start one! This is what I most likely would respond with, but you might get other suggestions so give it a shot:

Unfortunately, the old "Ask me every time" option was removed.

You can set your default to the permission you used most often, for example, for session cookies:

Keep until: I close Firefox

Firefox will continue to apply your accumulated allow/block list, but to choose a non-default setting for a site in the future, you'll need to use one of these methods:

For the site currently indicated in the address bar:

Call up the Permissions panel of the Page Info dialog any of these:

• right-click a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info > Permissions
• (menu bar) Tools menu > Page Info > Permissions
• click the padlock or globe icon to the left of the site address, then the ">" icon, then More Information > Permissions

The "Set Cookies" permission is about 3/4 of the way down the panel.

For other sites:

You can manually create an Exception on the Options page. However, it's probably easier to use an add-on. (I haven't tested any myself.)

jscher - I disagree. This is the hot thread that already has 50 people with the same issue., and some of them have this issue in FF 44. The FF version is not relevant to the issue. Let's stay here.

Your workaround doesn't work.

Instead of sending me off to do a clone of this important thread, please communicate with your closest buddies in Mozilla and ask them if they've gone out of their minds.

Then, after you've determined which jerk implemented this wrong decision (and without telling anyone!), ask them to put the option back.

And let's stay here until this is resolved.

I also am extremely disappointed by this change. It was a feature i used heavily. Without this feature there is no point for me in using FF. This option is crucial to me. I switched to Opera instantly after i found out only to find out that this option doesn't exist there as well.

if this option comes back i might install FF again. i refuse to use a browser without this option.

The Cookie Monster extension is an option for those who are willing to let a page load with your default cookie permission, whether it is Allow for Session or Block and then make changes as needed/desired from a drop-down menu.

Sample screen shot attached -- the option to "Apply cookie settings to both HTTP and HTTPS" is turned on, which streamlines the menu. With this option you don't have to set/modify permissions for both HTTP or HTTPS on the same site (why would they be different?).

I will close this as the OP related to Fx43, and although marked solved the solution does not apply to the current Fx44 Release.
