Firefox 41.0 OSX process caught causing excessive wakeups

more options

After upgrade to v41.0 my Macbook has been hanging. My suspicions point towards the latest version upgrade. Reset FF but ReportCrashes persist. Console errors show many Firefox events such as :

9/27/15 10:44:34.000 kernel[0]: process firefox[527] caught causing excessive wakeups. Observed wakeups rate (per sec): 203; Maximum permitted wakeups rate (per sec): 150; Observation period: 300 seconds; Task lifetime number of wakeups: 861663

9/27/15 10:44:34.047 ReportCrash[643]: Invoking spindump for pid=527 wakeups_rate=203 duration=222 because of excessive wakeups

What needs to be reconfigured to reduce wakeup events?

Chosen solution

I may have found the root cause. A bank suggested that I install something called Trusteer Rapport as a part of their InfoSec recommendations.

In additional to Firefox acting flaky, I suddenly started to see kernel panics for the first time. One of those panic messages flagged this software. I've removed this software and both Firefox and the Mac have been much more stable.

Will continue to monitor but I think I have it. Will close this issue ticket.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

While still in Safe Mode,

Some of your crash reports weren’t sent to the Mozilla Servers.

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP in front of the numbers/letters, click it and select Submit.

Using your mouse, mark the most resent 7 - 10 crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box below and paste them in.

Here you go. I've checked the Console and Activity Monitor and I'm still seeing occasional spin dumps and other kernel error reporting. Those are copied and pasted below as well.

For some time now, a lot of Mac’s with Microsoft programs have been crashing. Check with Microsoft / Mac support sites.

The instability I've noted has been well after the crash reports included above. Instability started in the last couple of weeks. What about MS Office would cause Firefox to exceed wakeup thresholds?

Upgrade your Firefox to the current (link above).

As a test, remove ALL Microsoft from your system. You can always reinstall it later.
