I would like to uninstall Lightbeam and/or locate the source of this "music" that started showing up after I installed Lightbeam.

After installing Lightbeam, every time I open a new window or begin a web search, there is an annoying jazz blurb that plays. How can I make it stop?!

I have Lightbeam, but no music.

Are there any other tabs/windows open? Mp3 player?

Disable Lightbeam. Is the problem still there?

Thanks for looking into this. I don't know how to disable lightbeam, either. I cannot find lightbeam in my computer system, only a small tab on the menu bar. I'm thinking another program installed itself with Lightbeam? The "music" is about a 5 sec blurb, always the same. Annoying jazz type.

Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control>(Mac:<Command>)<Shift> A)

In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions. Locate that add-on and disable/remove it.

What address bar? I only get the Mozilla websites when I do this.

p.s. I am working with Windows 10, on a PC.

Okay, found it. Thanks much! I'll know soon if the "music" continues.

Fred McD, I disabled Lightbeam, but still have music. So itis something else and I worry that it is a trojan or some kind or virus or .... whatever!

If anyone knows where I can find more info on this, I would appreciate it.

It could be the work of one of your add-ons. Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control>(Mac:<Command>)<Shift> A)

In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions. Disable a few add-ons, then Restart Firefox.

Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause Firefox issues. Disable All of them.

If the problem continues, disable some more (restarting FF). Continue until the problem is gone. After, you know what group is causing the issue. Re-enable the last group ONE AT A TIME (restarting FF) until the problem returns.

Once you think you found the problem, disable that and re-enable all the others, then restart again. Let us know who the suspect is detective.

Does this occur when you open a new tab displaying Firefox's built-in new tab page with thumbnail images?

There is a bug in Firefox 40 where, when you visit a site, Firefox is not able to create a thumbnail, so when you load the new tab page, if that site is among the top 15 that would appear on the page, Firefox tries to generate the thumbnail in the background. In Firefox 41, any audio from the site will be muted to get rid of this annoyance.

If you are ready for Firefox 41, you can upgrade now. Either Help > About Firefox or https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/

If you aren't ready for Firefox 41 yet, maybe because of some add-ons, you can try to block the problem site from the new tab page. To do that, load the page and then zoom out using Ctrl- several times until Firefox stops adding more tiles. Then look for an empty tile (thumbnail generation failed) and check the URL. If you don't need that listed on the page, click the little "X" over the upper right corner of the tile to block it. Hopefully you can get rid of this permanently this way.

(Note: if you accidentally block something important, there is a hidden way to unblock everything and start again.)

Past thread on this: Suddenly hearing music when opening a new tab...

It occurs when I open a new Outlook or Yahoo tab...also sometimes when I click on the Search bar.

I've check for add-ons. The only active one I have is Lightbeam...reactivated since I still have the music when I hit new tabs.

Do you know how to check for recent secret installs? I don't see anything in the programs list.

Thanks

Thanks. No hidden add-ons, just the Lightbeam and two that are not enabled...same two that are older, before the music. I think I'll go to Best Buy and ask. thanks much for your efforts.

If you plan to try the Geek Squad or any other retail storefront support, please make a backup first and leave it safety at home. This article has suggestions on that: Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.

Good idea. I was hoping not to have to take it in...I've run Webroot looking for malware...nothing. I'll let you guys know if I get this solved.

I don't know why, but it has gone away! For 2 or 3 days now, no sound. We did find lots of this kind of report on the net, with nobody knowing what was causing it.
