I am currently running version 15 on my home laptop - I have upgraded versions on my work pc and home desktop as well. For some unknown reason, this work. I have tried many, many times to upgrade different versions and non will install. I don't have any virus protection that would be interfering. Also, every so often this version suddenly stops working as well and I have to reinstall this one. I would appreciate any help you can give me. It will say something to the effect that "It can't read the configuration file"

This is completely frustrating. I work with computers on a daily basis and know how to install and upgrade software, etc. so this is most irritating.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Download the full installer from here and install it over that old version. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/

You need to delete the Firefox program folder.

  • (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

  • Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.
