Yes I have tried all the usual ways with no result. Sorry for my mistake but it installs itself in the Add-ons then extensions of Firefox

A companion program may be reinserting it. Here's my suggested procedure for tracking down and cleaning up bad add-ons. I know it seems long, but it's not that bad.

(1) Open the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program. After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Take out as much trash as possible here.

(2) Open Firefox's Add-ons page using either:

• Ctrl+Shift+a
• "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
• in the Windows "Run" dialog, type or paste
  firefox.exe "about:addons"

In the left column, click Plugins. Set nonessential and unrecognized plugins to "Never Activate".

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable (or Remove, if possible) unrecognized and unwanted extensions.

Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

(3) You can search for remaining issues with the scanning/cleaning tools listed in our support article: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware. These on-demand scanners are free and take considerable time to run. If they finish quickly and especially if they require payment, you may have a serious infection. I suggest the specialized forums listed in the article in that case.

Also, do you use any programs that have a "browser protection" or "home page protection" type feature, such as Advanced SystemCare? These programs can undo settings changes, although I haven't heard of any that would reinstall an extension.

Thank you for your reply, but I have tried all of these with no result. Also I don't have anything that protects my browser.

Does "Zoom It" show as an extension in "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" and if that is the case does it have a Remove button?

I have solved the problem.

Every time " Zoom It 1.01 " was installing, I noticed that there was something else installing called " Mozilla Firefox Hotfix " just before " Zoom It " downloaded and then would disappear. So every time I uninstalled "Zoom It" it would return.

So I caught " Mozilla Firefox Hotfix " and uninstalled it first, and then uninstalled " Zoom It ". Since then both have not returned. Both were installing in "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions".

Hey how did you 'caught' the hotfix addon? I don't even see it installed/installing. Did you remove it from the extensions page or somewhere else?

Zoom it has been bugging me for months now. Completely annoying, automatically restarts firefox to install itself whenever I remove it.

Yeah I tried those steps, to no avail. Tried all those anti-malware softwares too, still the Zoom it extension gets automatically installed. I don't even see Mozilla firefox hotfix in the addons, isn't it an official Mozilla extension? I don't think it is the one responsible for this malware.

Though I did just uninstalled "Comicrack" software which I installed back in March, around the same time the malware started trouble. Let's see if it does the trick.

Mozilla Firefox Hotfix ain't visible as installed in the extensions.

But, after I uninstalled "Zoom It" everything seems fine for a while till it installs itself again. Do this as I did and it will work.

1. When you catch "Zoom It" while trying to install go to "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" and see if you can catch Mozilla firefox hotfix installing. Once it does it disappears so you might not be catching it in time. Keep trying to catch it in time and uninstall the Hotfix first and then uninstall Zoom It and it will be gone. I only caught this by chance and didn't catch it time on 3 occasions. Then on the forth go I caught it and did my procedure and haven't had it back since.

I have tried everything else everyone else was telling me with no result, till I fell upon this by chance and noticed what it was doing and came up with this way.

My problem is solved now...........Cheers...stm57

Two days ago I uninstalled Comicrack and Hotspot shield from my computer and since then the Zoom it extension hasn't appeared again. Seems like my problem is solved too.
