I'm not very tech savvy and its hard to know what's going. on I just don't feel like I have control over my use of Firefox and of my own data!! Know Firefox is one of the safest browsers and I want to use it but feel like something is going on with "my" version of Firefox that I don't have control over.....

Can you please explain why you think there is a problem? Did you get your Firefox from Mozilla.org?

Firefox was loaded for me by a computer consultant and I'm assuming that he got it from Mozilla.org. When Firefox was initially set up I was in a home network environment that I did not have security / control over email etc.

Think there is a chance that my Firefox registration was highjacked... Computer Consultant had me set up with 1Password and I set up some accounts using 1Password (Was careful to guard that password!!) but the accounts I setup using 1Password were hacked!! Should I uninstall Firefox and start from scratch?

Download Firefox Full Installer For All languages And Systems {web link} Save the file. Then;

Using your file browser, open the Programs folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. Linux: Check your user manual.

Look for, and rename any Mozilla and Firefox folders by adding .old to them.

Now run the full installer. If all goes well, remove the OLD folders when you are done.

Remove the other programs the tech installed If you want.

Immanently change ALL of you passwords EVERYWHERE.

The above advice of renaming the mozilla folders is vague as some of those Firefox folders are your Profiles where you settings like Bookmarks, Passwords and such are so be very careful in what you delete.

Also you do not need to delete a Profile in order to create a new one unless you do not care about your Password, Bookmarks and such if not backed up first. You should use the ProfileManager to create a new Profile.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles

You need to be more clear as new users may not have any clue about Profiles and would be mad if they deleted stuff they would like to keep.

Also in case you forgot, there is no Firefox installers from mozilla.org for Mac OSX and Linux as that is Windows only.

Hey, James I said to rename the Mozilla folders in the Programs Folder. Aren't profiles stored in the user profiles (separate) ?
