Firefox crashes when I load the start page while it is open. Or when I open it after closing a session.

If the "bp-" prefix of the crash report is missing then click its line on the about:crashes page to submit the crash report and the crash report will get a "bp-" prefix (do not add it yourself).

Do the crashes happen randomly or when you visit specific web pages?

You can check for issues caused by plugins and set all plugins to "Ask to Activate" on the "Tools > Add-ons > Plugins" page (plugins are not affected by Firefox Safe Mode)

You can try one of the other startup choices if you currently use "Show my windows and tabs from last time".

When I open a new tab and click the Mozilla Firefox Homepage Icon it crashes every time.

Sounds like a problem with the current snippet that has a video on it.

Ff there are problems with a snippet then you can set the browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl pref to an empty string on the about:config page. Delete the storage\persistent\moz-safe-about+home folder in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed ("3-bar" Firefox menu button > Exit/Quit) to remove snippets stored in IndexedDB and make Firefox use a default snippet set. You can reset the browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl pref via the right-click context menu to the default value to re-enable the snippets and make Firefox recreate the moz-safe-about+home folder. Close and restart Firefox after changing the value of the browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl pref.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
