I have downloaded a second flash player and it is still the same. Firefox has been crashing daily for a few weeks. I noticed that your adblocker plus was updated 6/4. Since then I have almost no use of firefox, because the Adobe flash player 13.0.r0 and Shockwave crash notices are constantly popping up. Could that update have something to do with why the flash players are not working? Below are an example of the crash details. Thanks for the help. I prefer your browser, but this has made it non-functioning.

In trying to fix it, a window came up that asked would I like to change it back to a previous working image, which was Windows XP. Although this computer is Windows 7, I clicked the box yes, and said I wanted it to work like Windows XP. I see in your Operating System below, that it reads Windows Xp, but this computer is actually Windows 7. I can't find that menu to change unclick and change it back, so that it is working as Windows 7.

AdBlock Plus isn't maintained or connected to Mozilla as they didn't develop it. ABP and Flash don't interfere with each other except on same cases that ABP blocks Flash content.

You can Try disabling Hardware Acceleration.

  1. Go to this Adobe Flash Player Help page.
  2. Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
  3. Click on Settings in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
  4. Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel.

The image "fpSettings1.PNG" does not exist.
  5. Remove the check mark from Enable hardware acceleration.
  6. Click Close to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
  7. Restart Firefox.

This Flash Player Help - Display Settings page has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.

If that doesn't work try Try to disable Protected Mode in Flash 11.3 and above by adding the line ProtectedMode=0 to the Flash "mms.cfg" file located in one of these locations: [46]

   (Windows 32bit) C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash
   (Windows 64bit) C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash

For example, on a Windows 7 64-bit system, open the C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash folder, copy the file "mms.cfg" to the desktop, open it in Notepad, add a new line ProtectedMode=0 and then close Notepad, saving your changes. Next, go back to the C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash folder, rename the original file to "mms.cfgBAK" (to save it as a backup) and then drag and drop in the modified "mms.cfg" file from the desktop. [47] [48] [49]

Note: To re-enable Flash Protected Mode, either restore a backup of the original mms.cfg file, if you saved one, or else re-edit the mms.cfg file to remove the ProtectedMode=0 l line you added. Updating Flash Player or installing a newer version does not automatically re-enable Protected Mode

Flash has been a pain since day 1 and Mozilla is currently working to replace Flash with Shumway. Unfortunately it's in the Nightly channel, doesn't come activated automatically and it isn't quite ready for normal usage. I just tested Nightly yesterday with Shumway and it wouldn't play.

Thank you for responding. However, I am not able to do anything you suggested. 1) when I open firefox I first get a sign that says DO YOU WANT THIS PROGRAM TO ALTER YOUR COMPUTER? It comes from the User Account. The details read that Moxilla wants to change something on my HARD DRIVE. I can't even copy this message. Next pop up the Abode Flash Player and Shockwave are not working messages and this freezes everything. 2) your message mentioned what I suspect: that the ADP update conflicted even more with the adobe flash players. I appreciate not having the ads, but I have no idea how that works and how to control it so that it doesn't interfere with things I'm supposed to be seeing. Please I need more help especially with that opening message about moxilla wanting to change something on my hard drive. If I hit No, then I'm left with a blank page. If I click Yes then the page opens and is quickly obscured by the ADOBE Flash player message, with a Shockwave not working message popping up underneath that. 3) The Adobe flash that is installed is 13.0.r0, not the one on the link you suggested I use to solve the problem. That refers to Adobe Flash 10.

Can you take a screenshot of the error you are seeing (The "Do you want Firefox to alter your computer" message). You can learn how to do that by going to How do I create a screenshot of my problem?

Next pop up the Abode Flash Player and Shockwave are not working messages and this freezes everything.

Try to start Firefox in Safe Mode and follow my instructions to disable Protected Mode above.

How about uninstalling firefox, and reinstalling the program?

WtrLily,

What do you mean you're unable to take a screenshot? Taking a screenshot is a basic function in all operating systems. Please follow the instructions at the How do I create a screenshot of my problem? article and using FredMcD's instructions on how to upload it here.

Re-instaling Firefox normally doesn't do any good. It sometimes makes problems worse (experienced this). Can you use Moses's instructions and see that helps?

Repeating Moses's directions:

Start Firefox in Safe Mode.

  • Windows/Mac: Go to Help > Restart with add-ons disabled
  • Linux: Run firefox -safe-mode in the Terminal/Konsole

When you're in Safe Mode, try to disabling protected mode. Try to disable Protected Mode in Flash 11.3 and above by adding the line ProtectedMode=0 to the Flash "mms.cfg" file located in one of these locations: [46]

   (Windows 32bit) C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash
   (Windows 64bit) C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash

Sam, FredMcD mentioned the Sniping Tool - not in WinXP. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-xp/help/setup/take-a-screen-shot

WtrLily, If you do that, you will also need to use the option to remove your Firefox data and customizations. Otherwise, you won't get a full un-installation done. Note that all your bookmarks, passwords, and the like will be gone, so I hope you have a backup of that data.

As far as Adobe Flash 10 being recommended, IMO that version works on WinXP than Flash 13 does. IIRC, all the way thru the "run" of Flash 11 Adobe was recommending Flash 10 for WinXP; then they (think they) fixed Flash 12 to work on WinXP.

Sorry about that. I thought all windows had it. My bad. :-(

I have a question. Your System Details shows;

Installed Plug-ins

Version 5.4.1.18709 5.1.30214.0

Are these two versions of the same program?

Could this be the problem?

Thanks for your response. There has been some confusion. My operating system is not Windows XP, but WINDOWS 7 PROFESSIONAL. The adobe flash player is working fine on my IE browser, but the popups telling me that the adobe and shockwave plugins have crashed and are not working interferes with my using my preferred browser which is firefox.

Thank you All for your responses and attempts to help me. I'm not computer literate enough to respond to some of your suggestions. For example, the question about me having 2 programs installed...? As for the inability of taking a screen shot I tried and wasn't successful. The popup message just popped up while typing this.

Sorry I assumed you were using WinXP, that is the operating system you posted here with according the the system details in your opening posting here.

WtrLily, read these instructions and follow then. If you don't understand something, just ask.

Taking a Screen shot; Windows > Start > search box > Snipping Tool. Save the picture(s) to your desktop. Now look at the Reply box below. Do you see the button under it that says Browse? Click it and then select the screen shot(s) from the desktop.

  • At the lower right of you desktop, press the Windows circle.

When the list of programs is displayed, look for the search box at the bottom. Enter Snip. The list should now be narrowed down. One of the items will be Snipping Tool. Press it. Now the whole screen will be highlighted. Don't worry about it. Now you should see the controls. Look at the down arrow on the left. Press it, and select Full Screen. A new window will now open. Look at the top far right. Look for and press the disk icon. Now, a SAVE window will open. At the top, select your desk top as where to save. At the bottom of the window is the name of the file. When you are done, press Save.

Now come back to this page and go to the reply box below. Just under it is a button Browse. Press it, then navigate to your desktop, find and select the file you just created, and on the bottom, press Open. Firefox will now send the file and post it here. After the system is done, Write a message in the reply box and when you are done, press Post Reply.

Greetings All, I took my computer to the people that provided it. Firefox was upgraded from 29 to 30. Adobe Flash player was upgraded from 13 to 14. Shockwave flash player was upgraded

Did have a Moxilla crash today.... otherwise, the computer is back fine. Thank you all for your efforts.

Apparently, nothing is new with this junk browser other than it being crashing daily.

Since netscaper managed to dig up a somewhat old thread, I'll be closing this thread. Anyone who still has a problem (WtrLily) please create a new thread. It's ridiculous to reply to a month old thread.
