Renamed article (was: Need a better title for this article)

  1. The article used to be named "Using the Troubleshooting Information page" and was renamed ""How to provide detailed information for fixing Firefox issues". I think this article needs to have "Troubleshooting Information" in the title, since that's what the page is named and that's what you click on in the Firefox Help menu to open the page.

How about "Use the Troubleshooting Information page to provide details for fixing Firefox issues"

  2. It already has "Troubleshooting Information page" in the summary. I didn't include it in the title because I didn't think people were familiar enough with the page title to recognize that it was what they wanted when looking though a list of articles.

If what we're concerned about is trying to get better information from people when they are asking questions we should probably link this on the Get Community Support page and in the AAQ flow next to the instructions, "Copy and paste the information from Help > Troubleshooting Information."

I'm not against renaming it though. What about something like, "Get your question answered quickly by providing detailed information"?

  3. I think that "Use the Troubleshooting Information page" should be in the title, since people only see the article title when they browse the KB topics. The search summary is only shown in search results.

  4. What is the use case for someone browsing around for "The Troubleshooting Information page"? The idea for titles is to name the article in a way that describes what the user will be able to do. In this case it's about providing details to get your question answered. The vast majority of people have no use for this page other than that. That's also why I suggested linking in on Get community support and in the AAQ flow. Those are places where someone is trying to get help and this article will help them do that. Other than that it's not much use.

The reset Firefox article doesn't mention the name of this page in the title or the summary, for example, because the name of the page has nothing to do with the function from the user's point of view.

"Get your question answered quickly" and "providing detailed information" on the support forum isn't the only reason people are looking for ... or reading ... this article. "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" is accessible from the Firefox menu and the article helps explain the different parts of that page, whether or not the person is going to use that information for posting on the support forum.

Providing details for the support forum is not the only reason people will use the Troubleshooting Information page. The Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL article says, If you don't know which graphics card you have, look in the graphics section of Firefox's about:support Troubleshooting Information page and links to this article. People also use the Troubleshooting Information page to open the profile folder (as explained in the Profiles article) and to use the Reset Firefox feature, so they might have other questions about the page that reading this article can help answer.

    How about:
"Use the Troubleshooting Information page to help fix Firefox issues"

  6. Since it's agreed that this article could use a better title, I went with my last suggestion and renamed it "Use the Troubleshooting Information page to help fix Firefox issues"

  8. I don't think this is the right name for this article. The only thing on this page that will help you fix firefox is the section about the reset but that just notes that the feature exists. Most people won't be able to make heads or tails of this page.

The problem with naming this "Use the Troubleshooting Information page to help fix Firefox issues" is that it could make this page too attractive a target by overplaying what's in it. We already have a number of general "fixing" Firefox articles:

As a user looking though sumo, which of these articles should I click on? If we add this article to this list I don't think we'll be helping the situation. This page is really designed around getting help not fixing things yourself.

    I think we should use:

    • Get your question answered quickly by providing detailed information
    • Get your question answered quickly using the Troubleshooting Information page

    Or use the previous name:

    • How to provide detailed information for fixing Firefox issues

We should also update the information under the "Copy all to clipboard" section to better explain where to use this.

I don't think you're giving Firefox users enough credit. If they were as clueless as you think, they would have stuck with Internet Explorer on Windows or Safari on Mac (not to mention Linux users). Those titles you suggest don't describe the content of this article. "Copy all to clipboard" is just a small part of it.

The "Troubleshooting Information" page itself (which isn't named "How to provide detailed information" or "Get your question answered quickly!) says this, at the top:

This page contains technical information that might be useful when you're trying to solve a problem. If you are looking for answers to common questions about Firefox, check out our support website.

Even Forum Response - Get troubleshooting information says, If you need further information about the Troubleshooting information page, please read the article Use the Troubleshooting Information page to help fix Firefox issues. In other words, this article is for people who want MORE information.

If you think that "to help fix Firefox issues" makes the article too attractive, how about renaming it "Troubleshooting Information page - Technical details that may help solve Firefox problems"?
