Why isn't bookmarks drop-down button on right of bookmarks toolbar?

I know similar questions have been asked, but no-one seems to comprehend just what the problem is.

The bookmarks drop-down button (icon & text) used to be on the right side of the bookmarks toolbar. That was good; handy; inspired. Then, following yet another update (v23), this disappeared, only to be replaced with just the icon on the right of the address bar. Upon trying to move it back to the bookmarks toolbar, it now forces itself onto the left of the toolbar, and it cannot be moved.

Seriously, what the heck. With every update I feel like I'm losing more and more control over what Firefox does; customisation is the only reason I stick with FF. Please, please, let me know if it is possible to move the button back to the right of the toolbar; if not, PUT IT BACK.

Some functions of that Bookmarks button were changed in Firefox 23 were changed from prior versions, which is why it may have moved "all by itself". But, it is supposed to stay where the user places it when they move it after the update. You probably have a slightly broken localstore.rdf file, which is where that setting is saved.

My advice is to open your Profile folder (Containing Folder) thru Help > Troubleshooting Information, then close Firefox. Then delete the localstore,rdf file in your Profile folder. When you start Firefox the next time, a new default file will automatically created. Then you should be able to do your UI customizations, and have them hold after closing and re-opening Firefox.
