latest Firefox has a bug

Firefox seems to have a bug. At first I thought it was just my computer but then I noticed it happening on multiple machines in multiple places. After being closed Firefox remains an open process and when started again a message appears saying that Firefox cannot start because another instance of firefox is aleady open but not responding. I have seen this happen on many machines. Also if i do not open it again aftger shutting it then when I close down windows then it tells me windows cannot close yet because Firefox is not responding and there is a countdown for it to be closed automaticly. I am using windows XP and all the machines I have noiticed this on also use XP.

Most Firefox hangs are caused by either a plugin or an extension.

  1. Check for outdated plugins on the plugin check page.
  2. If the problem continues after updating plugins, an extension may be the cause. Follow the steps at Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems. (Some versions of Norton IPS and Norton Toolbar are known to do this)
