is speech to text possible in Thunderbird .. instead of typing, I would like to speak and for the words to appear right on the new email window.. can't seem to find anything anywhere regarding this .. and it would save me tons of time ..

I believe it works with the Nuance Dragon dictation product.
Windows has its own dictation functions, if you are using Windows, but I am not sure how long it takes to train to understand your voice, or how easy it is to switch focus between functions and text input. Just search for Windows Dictation and Windows Speech Recognition.
