I have had an issue with Firefox for a while now where it will randomly crash. It will completely close without warning and does not start back up afterward. Under the tap Help and troubleshooting information, I pressed refresh Firefox and the issue didn't happen for almost a week. The crashing is random. In addition it changed my desired search engine from google to yahoo.

The above reports are too old to be of much help. However, this current report is the same as the above.

Okay, is there a way to solve the issue?

What were you doing when the browser crashed? Were you looking at normal web pages? Videos, audios . . . . .

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Let’s do a full clean re-install;

Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link}

Save the file. Then Close Firefox.

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86)

Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-download-and-install-firefox-mac

Linux: Check your user manual. If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it. See Install Firefox on Linux; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux

If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder Firefox in your home directory. http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Look for, and remove any Mozilla or Firefox program folders. Do not remove the Mozilla Thunderbird folder if there is one.

Do Not remove any profile folders.

After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner if you have one. Then run the installer. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ If there is a problem, start your Computer in safe mode and try again.

I believe the 2 most recent times this issue occurred I was watching an Amazon Prime instant video.

I followed the link and re-installed Firefox. I won't know if this solves the issue unless it happens again. Like i mentioned before it was random would be fine one day but not the next. There was never a way for me to know when the issue would occur. But I believe I re-installed it correctly it had me replace the existing file and when opening asked if I was sure as it was downloaded from the internet.

Give it a while, and keep track of what the browser was doing if it does crash. Also, post any new crash reports.

I am back to having this issue. It was fine for about a week and a half or so. The first time it crashed I was on a forum, and the second time I was on Targets website. Below are the report ID's

Attention Sumo's there are over 70 related bug reports.

A ShutDownKill means that something within Firefox is not responding.

Try updating the browser to the current.

A shutdown hang means that Firefox takes too long to close properly and a crash is enforced.

If you use "Clear history when Firefox closes" then try to disable this feature.

So this issue occurred again just now. I am using the Firefox version 63.0.3

Is that still the same shutdown signature if you click the link on the about:crashes page?

Technically this isn't a crash, but rather a hang and Firefox takes too much time to complete an action and a crash is forced.

Please post any new crash reports.

I just went to the about:crashes page and it doesn't show a crash from yesterday when this occurred.
