There is some extension of sorts that keeps taking over. It's called mp3tubetoolbar and every time I go to search a word in the toolbar it pops up using this engine. How to I change this to use bing for searching, and prevent it from changing it in the future? I already went to my add-on's and it does not list the mp3tubetoolbar, so I have no idea how to rid of it? Please advise.

Click the Firefox button, go to Add-ons, Extensions and remove this:

  • Jookz Toolbar.

If it doesn't make any difference, do this

  • In the location bar, type about:config and hit Enter.

  • In the filter at the top, type: keyword.URL

  • Double click it and remove whatever's in there and replace it with http://www.bing.com/search?q=

The URL to add in "keyword.URL" becomes a link in this post, so right click it and choose "Copy Link Location" to copy it to the Windows clipboard. Then hit CTRL+V to paste it. Saves you having to type the whole thing.

To reset your home page, do the following.

  • Go to the site you want to set as your homepage.

  • Click the orange Firefox button and go to Options | Options | General .

  • Make sure it says "Show My Homepage" in the first dropdown menu.

  • Click the button called "Use Current Pages" to set the homepage to the one you have on the screen.

N.B. to prevent the problem recurring, watch what you do when you install a 'free' program. Most of this junk comes bundled with other apps.

I have tried everything, including searching the files in my computer, and I can't find it to delete it. I tried changing everything to bing, and it takes over. It's not even listed in my extensions. and my firefox keeps crashing, I don't think this new version is good.

Open about:config again and then in the filter at the top, type: mp3tube

For every setting where you see that name, right click it and choose Reset to reset it to Firefox defaults.

Then close Firefox and restart it again.

okay I did the first step again, so far so good. I just hope it doesn't take over again. thanks for your help. I also already set all the items under mp3tube, so maybe that combined worked. Supposedly it is yahoo, but I don't know what in the computer is linked to yahoo, allowing it to do that. Searched all my programs, and no yahoo. Hope this lasts. Thanks again. :)

I went to search something today and it happened again. Stubborn, that's for sure. Your suggestion did work, but something else in the computer is allowing this mp3tube toolbar to take back over. Very aggravating. Going to try contacting them directly. thank you.

It appears that you can remove it with Malwarebytes. So download the free version from here and then run a full system scan: http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free

Just wanted to add that I have downloaded scanners, etc. Nothing pops up with this mp3tubetoolbar. I searched my local drive and it showed up in my music, I deleted all filed associated. I have changed the keyword.url, I have checked all settings.

the closest I have come to fixing it is while it's running. Once I close firefox and reopen, it takes over again. How is this possible? Something is changing the keyword.url. I have even tried restarting in safe mode, where all extensions are disabled, to see if that would help. Nope.

btw.. it is not affecting my search bar, only the address bar. I have set my search bar to bing and it remains bing. That was changed somehow, but I switched it back to bing and it remains bing. I switch the address bar to bing search, and as I said as soon as I close and reopen, it switches back. How is this possible, what is this redirection connected to? How in the world do I get rid of it for good ?!!

I know this happens time to time, you download a program, etc and suddenly your stuff is all changed, but I always manage to change it back, once I get rid of the program, only I don't know where it's coming from? I have tried to find out information, no luck. Even the dang page says @ the bottom, "how to remove," as a link, then it pops up with the "keyword.url." That's nice, but it doesn't mention how the damn thing keeps taking back over. I'm not going to have to change a setting every time I start firefox. btw. already updated firefox, no prevail. HELP !!

tried all these suggestions and none worked. Finally, I simply uninstalled Firefox using Revo Uninstaller. When the Firefox uninstaller opened I checked the box for "remove personal settings." (You lose your bookmarks and saved passwords). I then downloaded firefox and re-installed it and no mp3tubetoolbar!
