Thunderbird connection resets when using Mozilla VPN.

jloflin

I am using on Mozilla VPN on my Linux computer. Thunderbird is my email program. My ISP is Spectrum. I have a very old rr.com account. When I instruct Thunderbird to "get mail", it gives me a pop-up "Thunderbird connection to server mail.twc.com was reset". The only way to stop this is to disconnect my vpn.

Is there a way to stop this behavior? I would prefer to leave the vpn on at all times.

BTW, I am in the U.S. and select a location in the U.S. for the vpn.

Thanks.

Many servers object to a VPN because it hides your IP. Often access is completely blocked because server thinks you could potentially be a hacker. In your case, it seems access to server is being accepted, but everything gets reset.

If you want to use VPN for eg: browser but not eg: Thunderbird, try split tunnelling. General Info: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/products/vpn/resource-center/split-tunneling-with-mozilla-vpn/

App exclusion info: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/split-tunneling-app-permissions

I'm on Linux Mint 22.3 and the "app exclusions" tab doesn't show up in the Mozilla VPN menu. There is a cgroup folder (/sys/kernel/cgroup/), but no cgroup1 folder. Mint is a Debian derivative, and I am running Cinnamon desktop.

What am I missing?

Thanks.
