Firefox Proxy and Encryption Protocols

JC-Support replied

I understand the VPN feature in firefox is a proxy and not a VPN. VPNs are often secured using OpenVPN & Wireguard, whereas proxies are often secured using only HTTPS. How is traffic through the firefox proxy secured? Is it end-to-end? Thank you.

Firefox’s built-in VPN routes your browsing traffic through a proxy network that replaces your IP address before it reaches a website. It relies on standard encryption between Firefox and the site. (Firefox already uses HTTPS to encrypt page content.) This protection is limited to traffic generated within the Firefox browser. It does not protect traffic from other apps and does not encrypt your entire device’s internet connection.

Hope this helps!
