i installed the latest version from the website, and it only opens for a split second before it crashes. no error message, it just closes before its even fully open. same thing in troubleshoot mode: the troubleshoot mode popup only appears for a second, i dont even have time to read it before it closes. no error message. i tried a clean reinstall and nothing changed. i opened it in safe mode and it worked with no problems. i read that there are sometimes issues with avast, which i used to have, so i deleted the residual files i found in AppData and Program Files. still nothing. now the only antivirus/firewall software i have is windows defender (and i know that because windows defender keeps telling me haha), and i tried adjusting the windows firewall- still nothing. i would love to include a crash report ID, but there are no crash reports in the folder (photo attached), even though ive tried to open the app half a dozen times since reinstalling.

not sure if its relevant, but just in case- when i couldnt open the version from the website, i tried installing it from the microsoft store, and it actually worked fine at first. but shortly after i finished setting it up (it was probably open for less than an hour), it crashed and then it was the same- crashing immediately upon startup. i have since uninstalled it, in case they were interacting in a weird way, so now i only have the version from the website. i also have the mobile app on my phone and it works like a charm.

i consider myself pretty good at troubleshooting, but im completely stumped here. sorry for the long post, any guidance would be greatly appreciated

Hey, We're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing. In order to assist you better, please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A list of Submitted/Unsubmitted Crash Reports will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Submitted Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.

Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.

(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

as i said before, i cant submit a crash report ID. i cant find them through firefox since it won't open at all, so i followed the steps to find the folder in my files but the folder was empty. (shown in the screenshot from before)

well, there is one file in it named install time. i didnt think it was relevant, but the number in that file is 1679721482.

if you can't help me without a crash report ID, it's fine, it's probably an issue with my computer or something and i can go get it looked at. just thought i'd ask here in case you could figure it out better than i can. either way, thanks for your help.

If you're running the pro version of Windows, try this. It also works in Win11.

Did you recently uninstall an application that was using Visual C+ runtime components?

You can check for issues caused by a corrupted or incomplete Visual C++ installation that is missing runtime components (Redistributable Packages) required by Firefox, especially VCRUNTIME140_1.dll.

See "Visual Studio 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2022":

You may also have to install the Visual Studio 2013 Redistributable Package. You need to reboot the computer.

i dont have the pro version, and i tried the visual C++ installation as well. i turned off firefox hardware acceleration and updated my graphics drivers. i tried downloading the 32 bit version. still the same results.

i know there are issues with security software, but the only thing i have is windows defender. unless a vpn counts? are there other kinds of software i should look out for? my other theory is that it might be malware, so ill run a full scan when i get the chance. aside from that, im completely stumped.
