Why is Thunderbird filter not working after update
When I type words for example "jobs" in the message filter the filter does nothing. The filter used to work ok a few months ago but not any more

Thunderbird has multiple ways to filter messages. Please explain what you're doing.
I have already explained what I am doing to filter. I have attached a picture showing you that I am filtering for messages from "Indeed". After I type in any word and hit Enter nothing happens as you see

Christ1 asked for clarification because you mixed terms in your posts, search and filter. They are two entirely different things, so choice of words matters.
What you are doing is filtering, and the screen shot clearly indicates this. I have altered your posts accordingly. HTH
Why do you bother to reply and then. You now make the problem personal. There are something wrong with the email client but you are trying to say there is something wrong with me. Most applications have a search text box: that should work the same why with the Thunderbird client is suppose to work. If my 1st query confused you then why did not your say so. If you do not have a rational response to my problem the please do not keep responding and wasting time. Let someone who knows how to communicate without emotional content reply.
Wayne was trying to help, but apparently you didn't appreciate that. In case it isn't obvious, the people here are volunteers dedicating their time to help other users.

From the screenshot it looks like you just typed the phrase 'Indeed' into the filter bar, but didn't pick an actual filter. Try to 'Filter messages by: Body'. https://support.mozilla.org/kb/quick-filter-toolbar

It was confusing, hence the request for clarification.

christ1, great catch on the lack of selections! (that isn't the default of course)
> Most applications have a search text box: that should work the same why with the Thunderbird client is suppose to work. Clearly that isn't the case here. Perhaps because Thunderbird has a richer feature set than other apps you deal with?
