Videos on news sites will not play so Firefox, nice as it seems , is no use to me. I have looked through all the "fixes" and none have worked for me. I have loaded and tried some add-ons. I have disabled them after, most seem to involve downloading videos but I just want to watch them. In the forum I saw the same problem and no solution there either. I have Windows Vista Home OS.

Youtube currently uses the HTML5 player.

If you have problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions then check this:

  • see if there are updates for your graphics drivers

https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration

  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)

https://forums.adobe.com/message/4468493#TemporaryWorkaround

  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

Fred, Thank you very much for your reply and effort. You sound like you really know what you are doing, unfortunately I do not when it comes to computers. I tried each of your suggestions to the best of my ability (some I had found & tried b/4 but tried them again) Each time restarting and going to Fox or CNN to see if videos would work and no luck. In pouring through the Firefox help files and forum, I came to the conclusion that Firefox is for geeks (people smarter than I about computers) and that I am out of my league in trying to use it, much as I like it.

Yes, I will try. http://video.foxnews.com/v/4914091388001/alan-greenspan-entitlements-are-crowding-out-savings/?#sp=show-clips

I noticed another thing, when I try to post to a forum, which has a 10 word minimum, it will not accept the post b/c it is "too short" even tough it is not.

The clip plays fine for me. Are you using blocking programs/add-ons?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Is the problem still there?

Fred, I disabled all the extensions (including Ublock) and marked all plug-ins "never activate" and still it would not show videos.

But then I tried the Start in Safe Mode link you sent me and it worked, at least the Fox & CNN videos worked.

What does Safe Mode do? What should I do now? John

Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes). If the problem goes away, that tells us one thing. If it does not, that tells us something else.

Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar. Under Advanced, Select General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open the Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control>(Mac=<Command>) <Shift> A)

On the left side of the page, select Appearance. Then select Default.

Now restart Firefox.
