Firefox crashes on startup (Windows 7, 64 bit)

iantwebb

This happened with FF ver 40, which was working fine until 2 days ago. I had not installed any new software. Other browsers such as Chrome and Internet Explorer are working normally. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling (now version 41) I have tried to create a new profile.

Here is the error message:

Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID's that help us find out more about the cause of those crashes.

  1. On the keyboard, press [Windows] The image "Windows key" does not exist. + [R]. This should bring up a Run window that contains a text field.
  2. In that text field, type %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
  3. From that explorer window, double-click on the Mozilla folder, then double-click on Firefox and then on Crash reports. Double-click on submitted.
  4. Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to View > Arrange Icons by > Modified to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
  5. Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
  6. Paste each ID with bp- into the reply window on the forums.

Thanks in advance!

You can find more information and troubleshooting steps in the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) article.

The crash reports folder has no "submitted" section. Only two files called installltimne...., and an empty folder called Events

But latest update is that I looked at other threads on related topic and it was suggested I edit the prefs.js file by adding: user_pref("layers.d3d11.disable-warp", true);

Now everything works but I havent tried asecond time yet after rebooting. Also the guy who suggested this fix did not explain what I was doing by making this change. Can anyone comment?
