I have the FF UID and PW saved, FF automatically enters the UID (admin) & PW w/ dots, but the live camara view will not open until I click Login, press enter key, or basically do a carriage return.

I have other websites that automatically load with UID & PW (Creds) = feature of FF via Logins and Passwords.

Skip ahead audio in reader mode for Firefox Desktop?

Hello,

I love Firefox's reader mode's "Listen" or read aloud function. I use it all the time for my academic papers as it helps to drill the information into my head to read and listen to the content.

However, there was an 11x4 table with only numbers in each table cell, and I could not get the read aloud narrator to jump ahead to a later section. When I hit the "Forward" or skip ahead button, it just went to the next cell, and it was a very clunky experience getting to the end of the table.

Does anyone know a way to skip ahead in the content, such as skipping a table or selecting a point in the content to begin reading aloud?

Thanks a ton in advance! It's an incredible community that we have here. Max

Story Time aka Scrambled mess

So, for the Longest time I've had a Bunch of old sessionstore.js backed up and since I had to reset my Windows a couple of days ago, I thought about going through them and deleting what I don't need/saving what I do need. Problem is that the most recent version of FF use sessionstore.jsonlz4. I tried as hard as I could to make the .js work, but nothing work. I tried to convert the .js to .jsonlz4, but of course that did not work either. The only thing useful I found was this Scrounger that finds the websites within the .js so you can manually save them... But that's not good enough for me. So I thought "Wait a minute... .js was used by old version of FF, then FF updated and started using .jsonlz4... but what about... everyone that was using the old version when it converted ? Wouldn't FF itself convert the .js to .jsonlz4 automatically if you upgrade from an older version ???" So I download a portable version of FF 52, open it up for the first time, set it to remember my last session, close it, copy and old sessionstore.js from my backups and paste it into the portable's profile folder and VOILA it magically worked !!! This was the first Win I've had IN A WHILE so I really needed it. Now I am still in the process of doing it but theoretically you can copy the profile from the portable to your main installation of FF. Oh and as a bonus, you can go to about:profiles, create a new profile and replace its contents with the portable one's.

My Solution

  1. Preferably download an old Portable version of Firefox (I used this site and got Version 52 but you are free to use whatever you want).
  2. Launch the portable version and navigate to the settings to select it to Remember your last session.
  3. Find the Portable's Profiles folder, not your main installation of FF.
  4. While FF is closed, Paste your old sessionstore.js file into the Portable's Profiles folder, overwriting the existing one it had. (theoretically you can also restore your sessions with your old previous.js and recovery.js/bak files by renaming them to sessionstore.js and putting them in Portable's Profiles folder.
  5. Open Portable FF and you Should see your old session. Now open the Menu Bar with Alt -> Help -> About Firefox -> Update Firefox -> Restart Firefox.
  6. I suggest Updating Portable FF multiple times until you reach the current version, but FF 55 or something should be enough but hey, there's nothing wrong with being safe.
  7. At this point you should have a FF profile with your old session in the new .jsonlz4 format. But why stop there ? Open your regular version of FF that you have installed (aka Not the Portable one) and type about:profiles in the URL bar.
  8. Select Create New Profile. Now you have 2 options: A. Copy the Profile folder from the Portable FF into normal FF's Folder for the profiles, or B. just select Finish and paste the contents of the Portable Profile's folder in the newly created profile in the normal FF. Oh and you can rename the profile too to something like "old sessions"
  9. After doing that, in about:profiles it will change the Default profile to the newly created, I suggest changing it back to the one you were using. Click Launch Profile in new browser.
  10. From there you can decide how you want to save that session. You can sign in to your FF account and sync it with your main and those tabs will be in "Synced Tabs".

.....Sorry for the mess, I am not good at explaining things and I try to be thorough.

Improve my solution

I guess you can improve whole thing by finding exactly the last version that used sessionstore.js so you only have to update Once to get the sessionstore.jsonlz4.

This does not work and hasn't for a while.

"Clearing a single item from the address bar history

To clear a single item in the address bar history, type or paste enough text for Firefox to show the item in the drop-down.
Press the ↓ down arrow key or move the mouse, to highlight the browsing or Search history entry to delete.
To clear the highlighted item, hold down the Shift key and press Delete on your keyboard."

Surely there must be a simple way to do this?

How to create and use "workspaces" in firefox

Hi, I need some help about a feature I'm searching for in Firefox.

I usually have a lots of tabs, sometimes for several usages (work for project1, work for project2, entertainment, ...). I finally have some difficulty to find all tabs back for a specific usage (I configured Firefox to remember my tabs at closure).

I though of something that would be useful. I mean I would like to define several "workspaces" in Firefox with dedicated tabs. Then, when I need to switch from one set of tabs to another, I would simply need to change the workspace. And that's all.

I saw a little about profiles, but I don't know if that's what I'm searching for.

Thanks for your help !

Hello,

I have trouble with restoring previous windows and their tabs from my older sessions.

Until recently I could find the sessions that were previously closed by clicking on CTRL+Shift+N. This would restore up to 10 windows closed in previous sessions (a number I set-up in about:config browser.sessionstore.max_windows_undo).

Now I cannot restore older windows any more besides those that were last closed after exiting Firefox and the Recently Closed Windows and the Recently Closed Tab menus in the Library are always empty.

Note that under privacy, the I have a setting to remember history.

My system: PC, Win 10, Firefox 86.

Thanks, Tony

I am using Thunderbird for my Netaddress emails, and have done so for many, many years. But in the last months a problem has developed. Quite often my Netaddress email "sent" folder lists the wrong recipient!! That is, my email goes, as it should, to the people I write to, but then, in my "sent" folder an entirely different and incorrect recipient is listed ! Please tell me how this can be corrected. Thank you.

I'm trying to use Firefox more instead of Internet Explorer I can't find a way to see a map or translation without going to a new tab.

I tried "To Google Translate" (https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/features/translate/) but when I click on "Translate" in the context menu, the extension launches a new tab. I don't want a new tab because it distracts me from my goal of understanding the original website.

What is the best way to see a translation of some text or map of a location mentioned on a website in Firefox while remaining on the current page?

I found some old resources but all of them are no longer unavailable.

Is there a way for a user to "open link in new (non-private/regular) window" when right-clicking during private browsing? I vaguely remember this being possible in early versions of Firefox, but it no longer seems to be on the context menu. Can it perhaps be added to the menu via some about:config tweak?
