I used to have a Google start page but now it is from Ask.com and that is useless for me. I get no good results from Ask. I tried changing to Google, I tried changing to blank, still it does not change. Any suggestions on what I can try?

Sometime during the past year, Firefox has stopped retaining US English as my default spellchecker dictionary. I believe Gmail is somehow the culprit, though I cannot suggest how. I have my default spellchecker dictionary set to US English (en-US).
In some tests I did just now: Launch Firefox, go to edit environment in Wikipedia, spellchecker dictionary is set to US English, about:config spellchecker.dictionary setting concurs. Restart FF, go to Gmail > compose, dictionary defaults to the French one I have installed (fr-xx-classique+reforme1990)*, about:config spellchecker.dictionary setting concurs. Open second tab, go to WP edit session, dictionary is set to en-US, though about:config setting still set to French.
I tried the above troubleshooting steps in a couple different sequences and did not get consistent results. At first, once I had switched to en-US in the Gmail compose environment (by right-clicking on an underlined string), that setting seemed to take for the remainder of the browser session across multiple tabs. I restarted FF and it still seemed to be holding, even in Gmail. Then, after restarting the computer and starting a Gmail compose session, the dictionary was back to French.

Anyone else reporting such behavior? Anyone have any ideas? --Eric

Hi! I've been having an unusual problem relating to, what I was told is the "built-in popup blocker" in Firefox, & that there's an about:config setting(s) that I need to change. Here are the problems I've been having: 1. When I try to place an order online I can't use Firefox, (& I'm forced to use the nasty old IE), because when I click on certain items I don't get the small drop-down menu that allows me to choose the flavor/size/quantity. (e.g. My dog's chew bones come in 4 flavors, but when I click on the bones I want I don't get the little drop-down menu that shows the flavors; I'm unable to continue placing the order because the site needs to know what flavor I want to order) 2. There are 5 sites showing streaming media of "nest-cams" of Bald Eagles; Peregrine Falcons & various other wildlife that I view daily. One site is http://www.wildearth.tv/cam/pittsburgh-bald-eagles; however, I can't view the site on my PC because this site, (& the other 4 as well), rely on "pop-up ads" for revenue, & if you have a free account rather than a paid subscription, the pop-up ads are just part of the viewing experience on the site. I was told by one of the Moderators that Firefox has a 'built-in' pop-up blocker, (not one that's added on as an extension/add-on/plugin), & that there's an about:config setting(s) that I need to change so I'm able to view my nest-cams on their sites. ***IMPORTANT INFORMATION*** If I go to any of the 5 'problem' sites using my iPad...sitting only inches away from my PC...using the same Internet connection...I can watch these sites perfectly!! Installed Firefox 36 on a Lenovo YOGA Tablet 2-1051 (10" screen).
Opened the Settings dialog, but the top bar (with the X) is off the top of the screen, the bottom OK and Cancel buttons are off the bottom of the screen. I can't seem to drag the dialog up or down to get access to those buttons. The escape key and enter key seem to be the only ways out, but I can't be sure that Enter is on OK or not.

Ive installed the "The Addon Bar (restored)" extension. Im trying to customise my add-on bar by adding extensions their after clicking on "customise". Ufortunately, every time I close Firefox and re-open, my extensions disapeer from the the add-on bar. The only one that remains is the evenote webclipper.
Ive done alot of trouble shooting including refreshing(from troubleshooting infomation) and deleting the the contents of pref.js(in profile folder). Neither work, weirdly tho the latter restores some of my extensions but not all
How do I resolove the problem, any help would be greatly appreciated?

I could go to great length explaining why I don't want my browser to automatically perform searches in any circumstances, but suffice it to say that unwanted, automatic functionality will by definition hamper the way a person works. I am sure it is possible to disable this, or better, completely remove it, but how?

Sometimes when I am logging onto Firefox, it sends me to one of these websites. Then I have to go into about:config and have to change my startup.url and newtab.url to the regular correct urls. It is very annoying, I can't find it in my program files and MalwareBytes doesn't pick it up. I got it a few months ago and it is very annoying. I have done 2 resets and it still shows up. I want Firefox to only use google as the search engine for the top right search dialog. However, whenever I delete all the other search engines using search engine preferences, after a few days it invariably adds youtube search on its own, and eventually others (such as wikipedia).
I do not technically mind having the other search engine button in the popup, but what I really want to get rid of is firefox sometimes randomly sending me to the search preferences page when i type something in the search dialog and hit enter (which seems to coincide with having multiple search engines set). Sometimes it even simply randomly uses youtube search when I want to google.
