I've checked every box short of private browsing and when I visit a franchise store website they all ask for my location. I have to block it manually. Is there a way to block it automatically while not using private browsing? I also block third party tracking and use a variety of ad blockers and nothing seems to stop it.

Which version of Firefox should OS X 10.6.8 users preferably use in the future?

Given that v. 47.0.1 is the last one to be supported on 10.6.8, the answer given here:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-osx#firefox:mac:fx45

doesn't make it clear whether if it is preferable, IN TERMS OF BEST POSSIBLE FUNCTIONALITY (not necessarily security), to use v. 48 and later ones, or v. 45.x.x.ESR until it runs out in 2017.

This in particular: "Note: Some Firefox features might not be available on ESR." has caught my attention. Is there a way to know which are those features that are not available?

Thanks,

There's nothing "special" or "tricky" about my computer or my version of OSX.

All I want is to be able to find the OPTIONS menu in Firefox.

People/"helpers" keep saying it's under FILE......PREFERENCES.

Believe me............it's NOT.

Would someone PLEASE give a comprehensive, intelligent VARIETY of places to look? Because clearly, the answers that have appeared so far make no reference to "VERSIONS" of Firefox or versions of Mac OS......on which I'm beginning to presume the answer MUST depend.

Please don't make me post screenshots..........but I will if necessary.

Thanks, Michael

Support for my Mac, running 10.6.8, ends with the release of Firefox 49 in September, 2016. Can someone please explain in detail how to switch from Firefox 48 to Firefox 45 ESR? Do I download 45 ESR using my current Firefox browser (48) and then uninstall 48 before installing 45 ESR? I am not a "computer tech-capable" person. THANKS for any suggestions!

I just took my final update for Firefox for my Mac. I can't upgrade to OS 10.9 in order to continue to receive updates from Firefox. My Mac processor is too slow to run on a later operating system. Trying to avoid buying a new Mac as long as possible. I hired a Certified Apple Consultant to switch my browser to Firefox earlier this year and set up a new printer for me. I Just want to know if it's easy to download and install the ESR version of Firefox for my desktop. Thanks for any help/advice.

as a result i obtain the message added as image. mostly you find that people use a javascript file for "autoadmin.global_config_url", but i know of others who use a php-file. Does someone have an idea what i am doing wrong? some setting in config? thank you very much!

Hello, I would like to use mozilla.cfg / auto.js (specifying "general.config.filename") on my mac OS X 10.6.8. Tried to put mozilla.cfg in applications/firefox/contents/resources/ and auto.js in applications/firefox/contents/resources/defaults/pref/ and inserted a comment line as the first line in mozilla.cfg. It just won't work. As an example setting I entered "pref("browser.startup.page", 0);" in mozilla.cfg. Many thanks for advice.

Between sessions (I was away from my laptop; it went to sleep) but without closing Firefox, a Bookmark disappeared from my Bookmark Toolbar. It will take many hours to partially recreate it. It was a list of alternative journalist/news sites, so this looks like nefarious NSA intrusion. Firefox is collaborating with/has no protection from such intrusion? Firefox solutions (I don't remember the name of the page) suggests that I check for multiple profiles. I have checked Profile. There is only one profile (somethingorother.default). Where is my Bookmark list (a Bookmark on my Toolbar titled News -- a few dozen sites). The list and title of Bookmark gone -- all other Bookmarks are still there. Firefox solutions suggests resetting Firefox to Default, mentioning that "essential information" will be saved. What is "essential information?" What will be lost? All bookmarks? How does one decide whether to reset to Default on the basis of this kind of information?

Every time I try to update Firefox (for months now), it doesn't work. I download the dmg file on my Mac and then I can't get it to work. Today I tried 47.0.1 and then a window pops up saying "The following disk images couldn't be opened." It lists the file (under the heading "Image"), Firefox 47.0.1.dmg and then says, "Reason: not recognized." Anyone know how to fix this?

I've been a big fan of Firefox until about a year ago. Slowly, things slow down. Now browsing is a pain in the arse....slow, unresponsive and the big freeze, force quit, tear my hair out. I've tried Letting the script run longer, Error happens when accessing certain websites, Other causes from your troubleshooting page and nothing helps (that doesn't almost completely disable pages). WTF is happening? I suspect bad ads and video I don't want. I realize I'm on an old system but I keep it pristine. I'm a webmaster, so not totally clueless. I was on CNN and Huffington Post recently (they used to run fine) and both become slow within 20 seconds and freeze up by 2 minutes. Alternet and Salon...forget about it. They freeze within seconds. I've updated Firefox and Flash regularly. I'm so frustrated I'm going to crumble and start using Chrome FGS! I want to continue to support you but this is becoming unbearable and a waste of time. Please help or I'm outta here. Thanks for everything up to lately! Susan

In most instances I can click on the solid black return arrow. However in an increasing number of instances the return arrow is gray and clicking on it does not result in a return to previous page. This is a problem when I am reviewing my emails. In order to return to the previous page, I have to cancel the operation and return to my home page, then go to my email page. This is a nuisance. I am using 10.6.8 operating system.

There was a message when I checked for up-dates that later this year you will stop up-dates for those running Snow Leopard. Plaese don't do this. El Capitan is horrible on older Macs. I became paranoid when after latest FF up-date Flash player keeps switching itself off and must constantly be re-set to "always active"; are to trying to nudge us to upgrade OSX? Bless you all anyway, Mark.
