FirefoxESR 24.4.0 was bundled with Debian. For several days, I have gotten a popup message to install the security update, 24.7.0. The Mozilla link from within Firefox says I have the most up-to date version (24.4.0). Apper software manager says everything is current. Every time I click on the install link in the popup, the download window stays on the "connecting to update server..." screen indefinitely, never connecting. Firefox and everything else works fine, there is no apparent reason from this end why connection should not take place.

When I've been playing YouTube videos lately, I've noticed that a bunch of black boxes have been appearing over the player interface (The controls below the video) while the video is playing. Unfortunately, I can't provide a good screenshot, as the boxes come and go too quickly for me to get them. This issue still occurs if I restart Firefox in safe mode. I think it started happening with Firefox 37.

Ever since updating to 40.0.3 Firefox crashes almost every time on several different pages. I've had many crash reports submitted.
Please advise as it still goes on, even when disabling all extensions and running in safe mode.

Hi,
After too much instability on nightly recently, I installed firefox stable. Big issue : the pocket button is not in the adress bar 0_0
I serched it everywhere and do not find it. I also check the properties to see if pocket isn't disable but no, the boolean is at true.
It's a fresh install of 58 (now 58.0.1) on ubuntu 16.04 LTS

Hi,
take a look at this web site website. In particular the pictures pages web page are loaded extremely slowly or not loaded by firefox quantum (standard 61 or developer edition 62) while are loaded well by brave or chromium.
Can you tell me why? In general, firefox quantum is very fast compared to the others browsers.
Thank you
P.S. I tried also with different operating system without any difference. I already selected this https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/accessibility-services.
Netflix error it is not streaming because my browser (Firefox) is not supported

I'm wondering: how can I revert this back to how it was? I don't want it to plump out since it partly covers up the surrounding UI elements. I have a muscle memory for sometimes minimizing this bar with Escape, then clicking one of my bookmarks or one of the UI elements. I haven't had an issue seeing the address bar before, so this new feature is a detriment to me.
Thank you

Hello SUMO Team!
I always had this question but never really asked it. Why isn't DuckDuckGo or a more privacy based Search engine set as default? You even have to manually add Startpage and others... It just hurts me how a privacy browser has the Google search engine as default after all, most people come to Firefox for privacy and Google is the opposite. Maybe one of the developers can change that?
Thank you so much for trying to help me and Stay Safe!

I've installed Nightly the same way I have for years on my latest Fedora 33 install—i.e., download tarball, extract into /opt, set appropriate chmod and chown, make .desktop file, etc.—but certain videos certain videos on certain sites refuse to play. A Fedora discussion discussion led me to think it's how Fedora 33 may sandbox apps; I haven't yet had any hits on solutions in the Fedora groups, so I thought I'd ask here, since I can't be the only one with this issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Running Firefox 3.6.3 on openSUSE Linux 11.0. Have reinstalled twice, including completely deleting the .mozilla profile. No effect. Clicking on the youtube address from Google will INSTANTLY crash Firefox totally. I have blocked all cookies from Youtube due to a problem with their "an error occurred" message in Opera and also blocked them in Firefox. I have also tried "Private Browsing" with no effect - still crashes. I am extremely upset by this situation. Also, when I access the full Gmail interface (instead of the embedded interface in iGoogle), Firefox ALSO crashes instantly. These are the two main Web pages I NEED Firefox to work for! This is utterly unacceptable and I see from Googling that MANY people have this problem. It needs an IMMEDIATE FIX!
Every time Firefox opened

In Firefox 4 the "close tab" button does not appear in the "File" pull down.
This button does appear in Firefox 3.6.16 but is now gone.
I need it when I have two windows open, each with one tab open and I want to close one window.
The only option presented to me is "Quit" which closes both windows...

The genealogy site https://familysearch.org/search is stuck in firefox, even in safe mode.
This applies to linux as well as to windows 7, 64bit, enterprise (FF20.0.1).
The page opens and the blue search bottom is stuck with "Loading". Normally it shows "Search"
The site is working well with IE9.

Gerhard

Viewing these pages at suppose.mozilla.org in firefox 21, I can use the down key to scroll the down. However, this is not true for some web pages. For example, github pages :
<https://github.com/bower/bower>
pressing the down key no longer seems to scroll the page down. I've not tested it, but I'm fairly sure I used to be able to scroll with just the keyboard.
My Gmail only opens in basic HTML so I loose Google voice. Are they trying to get me to move to the Chrome browser??

Particularly accessing Wikipedia pages (that is my test case) FF-26 under linux Fedora-19&20 crashes. No Crash Reporter appears. About:crashes is MT. No RESET button appears on the troubleshooting page.
I did a clean and reinstall. FF-26 still crashes in non-SAFE MODE.
My work around to open Wikipedia in a separate window will crash soon. I have not noted problems in any other Wikimedia page.

Hi This goes back to an archived thread that Wesley was gracious enough to answer but that I churlishly did not respond to at the time - my only excuse is that I was working on a production system migration and found a different workaround - the question is here:-

I did not get this to work. I need to use the latest Java 1.7.0_55 for Juniper VPN (archaic on Linux and I am using 32-bit Centos for this work) to pass the browser security and log me in. So I have the plugin installed in 2 places - seems to be necessary
/home/oracle/.mozilla/plugins
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 46 Jan 15 12:39 libnpjp2.so -> /usr/java/jdk1.7.0_51/jre/lib/i386/libnpjp2.so
/home/oracle/.mozilla/firefox/plugins
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 46 Jan 15 12:39 libnpjp2.so -> /usr/java/jdk1.7.0_51/jre/lib/i386/libnpjp2.so
Now when I then want to connect to an Oracle Middleware product that REQUIRES 1.7.0_25 I of course get a message plugin is missing. Wesley explained the procedure but how do I add the link for libnpjp2.so to point to /usr/java/jdk1.7.0_25/jre/lib/i386/libnpjp2.so without clobbering the link to 1.7.0_55?
Sorry for waiting 6 months but I still have the issue and I can't avoid it any more. FF is the only option.

I'm attempting to use the latest firefox (v32) on Debian/testing/64bit using the 64bit version of FF.. This machine is a laptop and is only used with wifi. The wifi that is generally used is either a Starbucks or McDonalds which requires a click on a webpage before the connection is enabled.. When I start FF to be able to click this checkbox, it does not start. a look at the ps -xua shows firefox as a defunct/zombie process.. The way I've been working around this, is to use Google Chrome to pull up the webpage, click the box, then almost immediately the FF instance I tried to start comes up.. If I clicked the FF icon more than once I get more than one FF window.. It appears FF needs an open pipe to the internet before it will start. I MUCH prefer FF over Chrome, but if I'm going to have to use Chrome to "kick-start" FF, I might as well remove FF and just use Chrome.. Any ideas??
