Hello,

I am using Mozilla Firefox 86.0 on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Desktop, I am unable to play any kind of Video embedded on my Websites, I've also tried disabling the Hardware Acceleration in Firefox Setting, but still, the issue remains the same.

in my Ubuntu 20.04 LTS -> ffmpeg is installed, libavcodec-extra is also installed, but I am unable to understand why Mozilla Firefox is not playing the Videos in the Browser?

please help me in this case, I am frustrated with this for 2 months or more.

Kind Regards, Dhaval

I am older and use the zoom function on many web pages. After this last update the Zoom function seems to be broken. I Zoom to 133% for a more comfortable read on a news site (Guardian)... go into the article and have to zoom again. Go back to the home page and it is fine until it finishes reloading and it snaps back to original size. Have to zoom again. None of these zoom setting remain consistantly. This has only become an issue since I restarted Firefox to install the last update.

All of a sudden, Firefox appears frozen on launch: doesn't launch any web page, or any page, in face--preference, or any of the about: pages. Just blank page. Clicks are registered, but don't have any effect.

If I close the window, multiple firefox processes linger for a while, and then the crash window pops up.

So far, I've: deleted the ~/.mozilla directory; downloaded fresh version of both 86 and 87 developer editions; restarted with addons disabled; and various combinations thereof.

I'm on Linux Mint 64-bit, latest version.

Firefox is completely unusable for me now. And I think it started with my rebooting my PC (which I've done multiple times so far).

This looks suspiciously similar to https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/a5qru6/firefox_64_opens_blank_tab_and_crashes/ and https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1513855. They don't seem to have any solutions, though.

Any thoughts?

Hello all,

Last night I closed Firefox with more tabs opened than I should have (I was having screen issues) and turned my computer off.

Today Firefox doesn't open. I have restarted the computer, made a clean install from the Firefox download page, and made sure Linux was up to date (I am running Linux Mint 19.1). Attached are a screenshot and report ID: Crash ID: bp-f0205e31-aeab-4928-9462-9b4e30210305

I would really appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

Firefox: latest (86.0 at the moment of posting this question) OS: Ubuntu 18.04.5

Problem: Firefox always reports time (to sites) in UTC (my correct timezone is UTC+7). That refers to site like everytimezone.com.

At the same time, Google Chrome on the same system reports correct time.

System clocks are synced to external time servers, time drift is negligible (if any).

How can one make Firefox report correct time (preferably without any extensions)?

per the subject you guys, can you point me to a resource where I can find out why FF uses so much mem? that's not needed. i already read everything on the web I could find. I understand that the multiple threads are for faster content loading, but that's irrelevant for me. I've manipulated it for quite a while, and I always see 5 threads boot when FF boots. can that be stripped down? if so, how? tx. see img.

Build: Windows 10 Pro, Intel Core i5-10600, GTX 1070, 16GB RAM, MSI B460M-A Pro. OS and some software on an SSD, other stuff on two hard drives.

Problem: Replaced mobo, CPU, RAM, CPU fan and SSD a week ago, installed fresh OS. The day after that computer started resetting randomly while streaming or watching a video in Firefox after a period of from five minutes to two hours. Never happened while I was playing Monster Hunter World and Apex Legends and streaming them with Chrome open or closed. Win doesn't say anything about it after reboot, and I can't see a minidump in Windows folder.

Event log doesn't say much interesting, two events right after the reboot are always like that:

The previous system shutdown at 15:23:32 on ‎02.‎03.‎2021 was unexpected.

Audit events have been dropped by the transport. 0

The only other warnings in the log are like this: Catalog Database (1800,R,98) Catalog Database: The database format feature version 9180 (0x23dc) could not be used due to the current database format 1568.20.0, controlled by the parameter 0x410022D8 (8920 | JET_efvAllowHigherPersistedFormat).

Tried updating chipset & network adapter driver, graphics drivers, turning hardware acceleration in browsers on and off, removing add-ons from Firefox, reinstalling browsers. Checking temperatures with Open Hardware Monitor (all below 40 degrees Celsius), CPU load is very low. PSU is also a suspect, but this crash never happened when Firefox wasn't running.

I guess it was the update to Firefox v. 86.0 here on Ubuntu that made Firefox create an extra empty window beside the session I always (re)open, which contains a large amount of tabs. When I try to close the empty window Firefox gives a warning, that this will close my (many) tabs. That doesn't make much sense to me. And when another app, like Thunderbird, opens an URL, it is opened in the new empty window. I can add that I use some add-ons like Simple Tab Groups, Vertical Tabs Reloaded, AdBlock Plus and NoScript.

This past weekend, it appeared that firefox's servers crashed. I patiently waited for it to come back up. Tried to use it the next day and it's just not working correctly. It will open up to the default firefox page (not my home page), but that's about it. I can't get to other websites, it just won't go. I've tried reinstalling and nothing has worked. Please help. I have had Firefox downloaded for a considerable amount of time and had begun to use it as my daily browser, until I started experiencing issues, concerning the loading. I have experienced this issue in all cases when trying to open the browser through the desktop shortcut, other icons, and even the .exe file, and typically I will see a brief white screen of Firefox before it immediately closes again. Frustrating to say the least and a quick google provides no insight. I have attempted on multiple occasions to uninstall and reinstall, however to no avail, and have even tried to create a new profile, via the Run (Firefox.exe -P) but again with no success. Running the browser in Safe Mode (Shift) will also work for a split second with the dialogue opening and then instantly shutting. Any suggestion on a potential fix would be great.

So, I was trying to head to Bing for reasons I will not disclose due to embarrassment. So I went to open it from google and was given the Error:

 ''''''''The page isn’t redirecting properly

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies.''''''''

So I cleared cookies and site data, nothing still got the error. I tried checking my PC for malware as stupid as it sounds, I just didn't wanna be asked to do it. Spic and Span. I even checked my protection settings which FOR SOME REASON turned themselves back on. I turned those off and still, no dice.

Any help would be appreciated

Some websites like to hijack your keyboard shortcuts. (For example in forums, ⌘-C, ⌘-V, ⌘-K, ⌘-L)

In Firefox, you can hold ⌘+Shift while clicking a link to open it in a new background tab. I recently encountered a website (Duckduckgo) which hijacks this as well.

Is there a way to block website from redirecting your keyboard shortcuts. It's really intrusive and I hate it.

Thanks.
