I encountered a problem with my search engine reverting to yahoo every time I re-launch FF. This is very frustrating. Somewhere I found that this can be related to add-ons. Although I didn't find any add-on called Yahoo in my list of add-ons, I found one called Search Engine for Firefox (or very close to this). I removed it and everything went back to normal.

The question is, what is that add-on? Where did it came from? I think it should be removed from available add-ons altogether, or, at least renamed to Yahoo search engine? I didn't install it specifically and was forced either by FF or some other add-on.

I've seen other users having same problem on the forum, why isn't that addressed?

I really got fed up with a couple of sites, especially Google, when they wouldn't save my settings. I had to log in each time I started Firefox. I finally got so pissed off I switched to DuckDuckGo. Guess what - It did the same thing. Okay, that meant the problem was with Firefox, not those programs.

I tried all the regular suggestions and help articles. Nothing worked. I went through all my addons thinking one of them was doing it. I even disabled addons and the problem continued. Now it's just Firefox.

SOLUTION: On the Options > Privacy page there is a section about History. I've use custom settings for years without any problem. Everything is normal EXCEPT Keep Until ". . . . . .". I've used "Until I close Firefox". Even thought cookies were enable, settings were saved, nothing was blocked, everything else was essentially vanilla, that ended up being the problem. As soon as I changed it to "they expire" it began to work properly again. When I reopened Options, it shows the history as "Remember History" now. I'll leave it that way from now on.

Hope this helps others that couldn't find the solutions elsewhere.

Second firefox.exe appearing in Processes in Windows Task Manager...

Hi all!

I began experiencing this problem a few days ago and not sure what's causing it:

In my Windows Task Manager, there are two firefox.exe that appear under Processes (under Applications, Firefox only appears once). I've used End Process to close each of the firefox.exe that appear and the result has been peculiar. Depending on which one I End, either the window closes entirely along with all the tabs or the tab that is currently open crashes and I get the message: "Bad news first: This tab has crashed."

I've scanned my computer with AVG for viruses and everything came back clean. I also scanned it with ESET for malware and nothing was found.

Any idea what I can do to resolve this? Any help would be appreciated.

Identifiable toolbar bookmark icons not appearing. Each time I set a new bookmark in the toolbar, or edit it an existing one, all I get is an extremly unhelpfuil CD disc type icon. Soon all my toolbar bookmark icons will be exactly the same, thus rendering the toolbar useless. For me, this is a vital part of the browser yet it seems utterly neglected. Add-ons wihich purport to address this issue (whicj shows how prevalent it is) simply don't work. The only browser I now that properly deals with this issue is IE11 but it is so slow loading pages as to be useless.

I'm using the latest version of Firefox but this issue has been apparent for many previous versions.

I am using Firefox 50.0 on OSX El Capitan. I was experiencing the same issue on 49, so I upgraded to 50 beta to see if it would help, but it does not. Every time that I start Firefox, I get a notification to update to the latest version, even though I am on the latest version. If I select "Restart Firefox" from the notification, Firefox restarts and shows the notification again. When I choose "Restart Later" I can browse normally.

I was trying to get help on this thread started by someone else (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1141443), but no solution was found.

I do have a clue that may help. I use 2 user accounts on OSX, one for work and one for home. I'll refer to these as accounts A and B. OSX account B was the first to show the problem, running Firefox 49. I followed instructions here (http://osxdaily.com/2014/07/31/manual-complete-app-removal-mac-os-x-terminal/) to use mdfind to remove firefox files, but that did not seem to help. Finally, with account B, I upgraded to Firefox 50 and stopped getting the notifications. However, now I get the notification in account A. In account A, Firefox reports as version 50.0, but still asks to update. I imagine that there is something OSX account specific causing problems, but I don't know what that might be. Any help is appreciated.

That used to happen for years. About 2 months ago Firefox began opening with a 'restored' (i.e. not maximised) window. For a few days in the last fortnight it resumed opening maximised. Now it is opening with a 'restored' window which is wider and shorter than the size used previously.

The localstore.rdf file is dated 09 May 2014.

Hello, I have been waiting a few days for a verification email from Firefox Sync. I'm logging in through Firefox on another computer. The email address is a standard Gmail one, and I have checked all folders, including Spam. I'm actively sending and receiving Gmail messages, so there's nothing wrong with that account. Since there's no direct way to contact Mozilla, I'm at a loss of what to do next. I want to have everything synced up properly; that's the reason I'm using the service to begin with. Does anyone have a suggestion?

I was on Facebook just fine. An hour later I went back to FB and got the following message:

JavaScript Required We're sorry, but Facebook doesn't work properly without JavaScript enabled. If you can't enable JavaScript try visiting the mobile-optimized website.

I know it's the browser because I have no problems logging in with Chrome. I did the about:config and javascript.enabled is true. I saved again. I turned it off and on again. Nothing works. I haven't added anything that I know of in months.
