This does not happen every time I am on Firefox but is happening more often. I will be on a trusted web site, "says Norton" and all of sudden I am redirected to a full screen orange page that says there is a important Firefox update. It then pops up a little box that says you have chosen to download this update. It then starts to download without me clicking on anything. It puts a virus in my hidden folder "appdata". My virus software catches it and removes it. I am using Norton Internet Security on Windows 10 64 bit home edition. This is a list of the viruses that downloaded in last few days: Norton Auto-Protect caught "firefox-patch.exe, Trogen. Gen.2" this was a bad one, it attached to one of my Windows msi file and another third-party software msi before it was caught and I had to restort my computer to get back the files Norton deleted. Norton Download-Insight caught "lqqcorm.js.part (JS.Downloader)" and "nir+_8hr.js.part (JS.Downloader). I don't know why this keeps happening but could this be a security issue in Firefox? Is there any way to prevent these redirects from happening? I have my Security settings set on in Options but this has no effect on the redirects, I don't know if any reports are being sent to Firefox when this happens. Is there anything that you can do? I love Firefox and don't want to stop using it. I don't have any images because I close Firefox as soon as this happens. Sorry.

When i go to a website i have previously gone too before without problem the captcha doesn't appear at all anymore. I tried browsing the net for answers but found little help. I recently tried going through my browser settings and trying different things and apparently got it to work again after installing the new java but it didn't completely fix the problem. After closing the browser and reopening it, the captcha was no where to be found again? Help please!?

I used to be able to view the videos, but about 3 months ago they stopped working and I started receiving the above error message. What could be the cause for that? How do you recommend to close Firefox on a Windows machine if you believe you are facing a malware attack ? For instance, if you get the orange screen "Urgent Firefox Update" that we have been suffering from, is it better to:

(1) Close Firefox by clicking the red x in the top right of the window, then Yes on do you want to close all tabs. This seemed to have worked for me with the current orange screen attack. Could such clicks could be hijacked to download the malware in some types of attacks ?

(2) Press Control Alt Delete and end Firefox in the Task Manager Although I have Firefox set to delete all history on close, it still restores session after crash by default. It would be nice if it did not restore crashed sessions by default, because usually those are crashing for a reason and will crash again - in this case would expose to malware again. Currently I believe one has to go through a procedure of going into AppData and removing the restore session file.

(3) Go to the Start Menu and hit Shutdown, or Hold the power button and force shutdown. Does this have the risk that the malware would download during the shutdown and not be caught by the internet security software ?

Unlike the other question on here, I do not lose any of the extensions or associated settings when this happens, the only thing affected is the appearance of the list itself. I have verified that this happens every time I boot Firefox after a PC restart. I followed the advice given on another questions to delete extensions.json and entensions.ini (the only ones present in my profile folder), unfortunately this only temporarily resolves the problem until it repeats. It started happening a few days after added Greasemonkey, I tried disabling it to see if that would fix it, but no luck! Thanks for reading.

I have tried just about everything and no luck. Firefox mysteriously started displaying ALL web pages incorrectly (broken frames) It was working fine until today. I'm running Windows 8.1, Firefox version 47 on a thinkpad yoga 1.5 yr old.

I have tried all solutions from previous postings and threads (from Tech_Chaos on 10/26/15) and no luck:

  • started firefox on safe mode,
  • disabled all extensions
  • Clear the Cache
  • Turn off hardware acceleration
  • Turn off Norton Antivirus suite

Any assistance to resolve this problem would be appreciated. I like firefox but this my force me to other browsers....

Using Firefox 47.0 on Windows 10

Hi,

I believe since last update, Firefox won't open .swf files stored on the local computer anymore. Whenever I try to open the local .swf file, Firefox asks me if I wish to open the file (see attached screenshot), then when I click Open with Firefox and the OK button it just re-prompts me again with the same question (same as screenshot). Because of this behaviour, I tried to manually set the .swf extension in the Firefox settings to always open .swf without asking, but that gives me flashback nightmares from 15 years ago when popup blockers weren't that common: Firefox loops and creates an infinites number of tabs while not actually opening the .swf file. I also tried to see if deleting the mimeTypes.rdf file from the Firefox profiles folder makes any difference but that doesn't help either.

I tried multiple .swf files but Firefox doesn't want to open them. The files itself are not corrupt and work fine in Edge browser. Also, I do have flash installed and flash sites and videos work perfectly fine.

How do I fix this? Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone!

Started to use Firefox 47.0, really that's a great browser, but i got a question about using it. The problem looks so: when I open lot of tabs, the arrows on the tabs panel become active and i can scroll the list of tabs on the top of the window, and everything is good. I use a laptop (Acer v3-772G, if it's important) and his touchpad. Sometimes, when i try to scroll the page down with the touchpad (I put 2 fingers on touchpad and slide them down) the page scrolls as it have to do, but the same time the tabs bar scrolls to the right side too, like the scroll arrow was pushed. That's very inconviniently, I have to scroll the tabs bar back to find the tab that I need.

Is it normal, or some kind of bug? Or maybe I can turn off scrolling the tabs bar? Will be very grateful for any advice.
