In the latest version (26) the classic download window has vanished. In a previous update (21? or there abouts) the downloads window vanished and your downloads goes to the top of the firefox window where the upside down arrow is.

However after abit of research I found out that by going to about:config and changing the Boolean pref browser.download.useToolkitUI to true and I went to check just now and it's still set to true but I still don't have the downloads window. I don't like the horrible new way for downloads because you have to keep the browser open to keep the download from running which I don't like. Classic is ALWAYS best.

browser.download.useToolkitUI was a temporary preference added in Firefox 20 and was removed from Firefox 26, along with the balance of old downloads API code. As Victor mentioned, an extension for a "retro" type of downloads manager is needed for a "classic" look.

I also HATE the lack of the download window, I dont mind the little icon on the tool bar, just give me the big (or any size you pick) list window of all downloads; sometimes I need to go after a failed download, also though I have the download window addon it doesnt show duplicates - ie: file, file-1, file-2, ect.

You can display the new Downloads Manager in a tab by opening the about:downloads page and you can consider to open this page in a separate window.

Firefox manages downloads in the Downloads folder in the Library (History > Show All History)

  • Downloads are treated as history items: clearing history removes included download items and vice verse.
  • When downloads are in progress you see an animated download button on the Navigation Toolbar showing an estimate of the remaining time
  • The Download button gets a green highlight once all download are finished to make you aware that new downloads are available.
  • Pause and Resume can be found in the right-click context menu of an item.

Download filenames are Cut Short - ie: Filenam~rt.mov . This is recent 12/13, and extremely irritating, looking to downgrade FF

I havent found anything yet in forums covering this, please an answer would be great before I go back to FF 25 (?) and lockout updates while I look for something better Thanks

Diego,

The old download manager: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/downloads-window

This is pretty the same but notice that there is no clean and close button support, there is no color (green loader) indication when downloading and the window is minimized on the taskbar... The rows are a bit higher... when delete a downloaded file the option open destination folder is still available... :/ But it only removes the fuckin library window :)

Still looking for a proper guide on how to downgrade FF without losing all your setting, bookmarks, etc. so I can get the old downloads window back. I know I'm not alone. (I've been using Chrome in the meantime.) The other threads keep getting locked without this support question being satisfactorily answered.
