How do I upgrade my Firefox Browser with Ubuntu?
yahoo is no longer working with my old Firefox browser.
I work with ubuntu only.

You could try updating your distro (canonical) version of Firefox but IIRC the version of Ubuntu you appear to be on 8.04 LTS (Lucid) may not offer official upgrades of Firefox (or presumably other software such as Open Office/LibreOffice).
You could switch to a newer Ubuntu version, possibly 12.04 LTS (precise) . I use that. Precise will have a newer version of Firefox and will allow updating of the distro Firefox install.

The other alternative is to install Mozilla Firefox. That will install as an additional browser. For comparison and evaluation purposes I also run several versions of Mozilla Firefox. Let me know if you need further information.
You may need to consider use of a second Firefox profile, or transferring of bookmarks etc between different Firefox or OS versions.

You will first have to make sure that you meet the System Requirements (GTK+ and GLib) for the current Firefox version.
An older ESR version:

Actually 8.04 LTS was hardy as Lucid is 10.04 LTS which is still rather old as it was released back in end of April 2010. And since it is a LTS it may still have too old stable packages in use to work with more current Firefox versions.

I am Glad at least Firefox does not name each Release.
I remembered one LTS did not update Firefox and I guess that was 8.04 hardy.

I have just booted a 10.04 Lucid and updated the Canonical Firefox on that from Fx20 to Fx25.0.1 the current Release. I did that from within Firefox the about:troubleshooting page has a link for an updated download.
The Ubuntu updater did not seem able to do that and was only offering an update of the OS to 12.04 LTS.
Hopefully that method will work for you. Although I am not sure as you only have Fifefox3.6 You will probably need to check you have the Unbufox extension installed in Firefox so that it will upgrade. Then navigate to about:troubleshooting you should see a link or an alert to upgrade. That will download a newer version of Firefox. You will need to extract this in the correct location, but let's see first of all if you can obtain that download.
You should first of all check your standard updater. It is possible your Operating System will update further,and maybe even download and update Firefox; at least to some intermediary version of Firefox such as Fx20.
