I have had a problem with Firefox freezing when I try to do just about anything other than simple browsing for at least two years. Updates don't help nor disabling all add-ons, nor reinstalling, etc. Nobody can figure out how to fix it so I use it as-is. I would like to update the Adobe Flash Player add-on but Firefox freezes every time I try. Is there a way to update the Flash Player in Firefox with actually running Firefox?

Thanks

Running XP SP3 and latest Firefox. Also running IE8 using the latest Flash Player.

You must close your Firefox to update your flash player.

Go here https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and download the lastet version of flash player then close Firefox and update your flash player.

Also I recommend to reset you Firefox.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Standalone files from FileHippo and Adobe Developer site were for 64 bit or IE, but I did install directly from Adobe as instructed. Seemed to install correctly but when I start Firefox I still get the warning on all video windows that my Flash Player is outdated/vulnerable. I can click on the window and get asked to Activate the old plug-in and then watch the video but it's very annoying to have to do that every time I want to watch something. Reset had no effect.

Please check if all your plugins are up-to-date. To do this, go to the Mozilla Plugin Check site.

Once you're there, the site will check if all your plugins have the latest versions. If you see plugins in the list that have a yellow Update button or a red Update now button, please update these immediately.

To do so, please click each red or yellow button. Then you should see a site that allows you to download the latest version. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation and follow the steps mentioned in the installation procedure.

That takes us back to my original problem. I can't download ANYTHING with Firefox without it totally freezing. I can't even Right Click a picture to copy it to the clipboard without it freezing. This is why I wanted to know if there was a way to update the plug-ins without running or using Firefox to do it.

Download the non-ie version from FileHippo with a browser like IE, then run the install.

Thanks for trying, but it looks like all they have are 64 bit versions and I'm running 32 bit. Guess I'm screwed.

That worked, thanks so much. Now all I have to do is figure out where I can find similar files for all the other plugins that are outdated, Acrobat, Java, DivX, etc.

Thanks again.

Basically I changed my webbrowser from Chrome to Mozilla because it made my browser too slow. And now updating the flash shock wave in my windows xp seems to be impossible task with Mozilla. My mozilla is up to date - this version 25. I tried to update when Mozilla is closed but then clicking on the file it seems like it start to do something - this file goes away from desktop but really do not update it :/

So basically I am desperate as somehow it seems to be not possible to update my flash wave player................

Looks like your problem is with your computer or Flash and not with Firefox. If the Flash Player Installer will not run as a standalone then you should contact Adobe Support and find out why it doesn't run.
