How do I Permanently remove a tab that is called "new tab" but is a Blank Page?
Every time I turn my computer on, I click my Firefox icon in taskbar at bottom, BUT, not only does my homepage tab show up, but lately I have been seeing another tab showing up beside it called "New Tab" but it is Blank. I don't how it all of a sudden showed up, but I can't seem to get rid of it. I right click & "close tab", but I have to do this every time I turn on my computer. Isn't there a way to Permanently Remove this Tab so it doesn't keep showing up on my Tab Bar?

When unintended tabs open at Firefox start up, would usually indicate that you need to check your home page setting for Firefox. Firefox can open multiple home pages which are separated by a "|" keyboard character in the field Options > General > Home Page. Your home page setting as shown with the information submitted with your question is
- browser.startup.homepage: http://xfinity.comcast.net/|
That "|" at the end is causing your second tab called "New Tab" to open. Remove the "|" at the end of the home page setting.

Hi philipp, Thank You for answering so quickly. I read the process & procedure of reseting Firefox, one thing though... I'm not real swift on all this computer stuff & when I read that Firefox will TRY to keep data, such as Bookmarks, History, etc., I always become a little concerned that something will be deleted & I will lose it. Like what about, besides my Bookmarks, History, etc., my Personas & my current desktop screensaver pic, etc.? Sometimes when I get suggestions/advice & do it I always end up losing or screwing something up, so I'm very leery as I hope you understand. I'm just concerned of losing Anything I have on my computer. Plus, I have NO idea what my "Profile Folder" is...or what an "Awesome Bar" is.

the reset will only affect stuff that is going on inside firefox, so your desktop wallpaper won't be affected by that at all. firefox WILL keep your bookmarks, passwords & history and create a backup of your whole profile if something should go wrong and you can revert this procedure. your personas will be gone though (next to your extensions, but some of them are adware, that's why i've recommended the reset in the first place) - you'd have to install your favorite personas again after you've performed the reset...

I want to Thank You phillip for your suggestion, BUT... TheOldFox gave such a simpler answer to just remove "l" in 'options' under 'homepage' & I closed all tabs then clicked on icon in my taskbar re-open homepage & lo and behold the 'blank' tab is gone.
TY though phillip, I was going to try your suggestion if TheOldFox's didn't work...but thank God it did & I didn't have to worry about reseting Firefox.
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH TheOldFox!!! I was given a suggestion to reset Firefox, which I may have lost some addons & personas and not sure if anything else, but then I saw your answer & decided to try it first since it seemed So much easier & safer. It WORKED!!! Thank You Again!!!!

Not true. Some time back Firefox lost my entire set of bookmarks and I had to start again from scratch. I lost many really important ones I cannot even find now on the web.
Firefox automatically saves 10 daily backups of a users bookmarks, so I really doubt that your bookmarks were truly lost. It's a shame that you didn't use this support forum and ask for help when that happened to you.
I did - many people reported the same problem. I tried to register then but every time I tried no email arrived in my box. I also tried the techies at work who are usually brilliant, and they couldn't get them back either. They were just completely gone from my computer.
You usually only lose bookmarks for good if you uninstall Firefox and remove your personal data.
Otherwise you should still have your old profile data, either in the Profiles folder or in case something went wrong with a reset in an "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop.
A common case for not seeing the bookmarks is a problem with a corrupted places.sqlite file.

Thanks, I checked the profiles when it happened and the file was empty. I don't know where this old Firefox data should be, I have never seen that.
You get an Old Firefox Data folder on the desktop if you use Reset to create a new profile.
Weren't there any JSON backups (mbookmarks-####-##-##.json) in the bookmarkbackups folder?
This sounds that already a new profile may have been created because of problems with the profiles.ini file.
Unfortunately that was empty too. The Firefox upgrade at that time seemed to wipe an awful lot of stuff. After searching, re-installing etc, whatever was suggested, I gave up. It was a while back. I will remember your suggestions if it ever (hopefully not) happens again though. I did have a very old bookmarks backup, but that would not import, so I did use bits of it manually but it had saved as a massive merged line of sites without my folders, so was a bit too much to fiddle with. The loss of the classical music sites was what I regretted most, no idea what they were called and cannot find some of them now. Ah well, no point in fretting about it now I suppose.
Note that you can open an HTML backup in a Firefox tab and click the links to open them.
If you have a JSON backup then make sure that the file has a.json file extension and be aware that restoring a JSON backup will replace all present bookmarks.
