How to remove Yahoo Search from my Toolbar PERMANENTLY
I tried to remove Yahoo by uninstalling and re-downloading the latest version as previously instructed but it is still there on the new installation. I am not a technician and do not want to start searching or removing registry places. I never asked for this service to be placed on the Mozilla page and I watched very carefully when downloading the program but there was no tick or untick place. It would be appreciated if someone could please explain in simple terms how to get rid of it PERMANENTLY

Thank you that worked. I even closed and reopened the page and it was not there. Fingers crossed it will happen again when I open it tomorrow after closing computer down tonight. Again Many thanks for the expert help.

Could you describe in more detail where Yahoo! appears? I can think of a few different places you might be referring to.
(1) Yahoo! toolbar
If you have the Yahoo! toolbar installed, it will appear on the toolbar menu:
- right-click a blank area of the tab bar
- View menu > Toolbars
This toolbar is created by an add-on you can remove here:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
(2) Yahoo! search plugin on the search bar
The search bar/search box lets you easily choose a different search engine from the drop-down, so it's easiest to just do that.
(3) Address bar search
To reset your address bar search service to Google, the simplest method is an add-on, but you also can do it manually.

(4) Other search boxes
We've seen users who somehow got other search boxes installed in their toolbar area. If you have one of those, could you post a screen shot showing what it looks like? This article might help with that: How do I create a screenshot of my problem?.
Are we getting somewhere?
By the way... if you got your Firefox installer from Yahoo's website, you might have installed a custom version with Yahoo mixed in. The straight-up Google-infused installer can be found on Mozilla's site here: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/fx/#desktop
Hi I downloaded the new version direct from Mozilla website but will try your site shortly.
I have done a screen dump so hopefully you will be able to see where the Yahoo bit appears. I have not downloaded any program from a yahoo page and it only appears when I open Mozilla Firefox page. When searching the start bar in Windows 7 I only get a reference to Yahoo in a game with regard to some pictures.
That would be #2 in my post above. Click the Y! icon to change to your search engine of choice. If you really want to remove it, use the Manage Search Engines item at the bottom of the drop-down menu that appears when you click it.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.
